The long term solution is to fit 4WD radials and a power steering kit but that will take some time.
Long term will see a complete overhaul and the fitting of power steering, an overdrive and airconditioning. I will have a few more grey hairs before all that is accomplished.
Oh and by the way, I am assured that the steering will get lighter now that we have managed to repair the Bijou and are dripping oil again (Bijou one-shot lubrication system - lubricates the chassis with SAE30 oil and you give it a pump every time before you drive the car). I suspect a rebuild of the steering box might be in order though, or perhaps even a new one, yes, they are available.

Dear Michel,
She is fine; in fact a few tweaks to the steering and she feels like she has power steer. Scary stuff. If Athena Nike looks kindly upon our ventures, we will take the PII to Bowral this weekend.:eek::eek: All alone on the M5 with nothing but the Gods to guide us. :D :D :D

Not yet Des - but I must before the weekend. The Gods do not take kndly to motorists who are so foolish as to venture forth unprepared......:eek::eek:
Imagine calling the NRMA to change a wheel on the PII. Ha!!! What would Mr. NRMA have to say for himself when faced by lining up the dogs on the outer hub and the splines on the inner? No doubt something quite profound like "Geez M8 - where do all these bits go?" No: The first principle of Phantom Driving is Motorist prepare thy toolkit. I shall keep you informed Des.

BenzBoy

I'd imagine the secret is along the lines of 10 Weet-Bix and daily workouts at the gym, the wooden wheels must be quite heavy!!

Dear Des,
You clearly have not been looking at the pictures!!! The PII sports the latest in 650x19" wire wheels. Eat yr heart out 6.9 owners!!! :D:D:D:D
Mind you, each one weighs a considerable amount so in my case it is 11 Weet-Bix before each drive.

Will be coming soon.....

Don't want to over capitalise on the old girl...
A better Cd player is in the pipe line...

But that's about all... It doesn't need that much to be spent on it....

No gold plating then?

Now that would really top off that striking red paint

You need to see that car in the sun....

You'll understand when you see the gold in the paint itself

Oh excellent stuff there - I think I may have a few wire spoked wheels in 19" lying around. If you can get them to fit inside your wheel arches then they are yours. Hmmmm, you may have to remove the guards front and rear and change your hubs too....:p

Benzboy, I have wondered when looking at the wheels of prewar cars - what are the three cylindrical devices protruding on the inside of the rim, spaced equally around it?

They are the canisters for wheel weights. Screw off the top and slide a small pallett onto the inside wire to balance the wheels; or remove a pallett as required. Quite elementary but it seems to work well.

What's wrong with a record player?:eek::eek: OK - a bit of wow and flutter and the odd skip of the needle as you oversteer around the Great Ocean Road but doesn't that analogue sound sweet? I use a proper turntable in the house and defy you to find a nicer sound.

Both my ML's came with an Ipod connector as standard (But if you want full control from the Comand or Steering Wheel it's a $750 investment) and I have a restored Becker with ipod connection and amplifier under the passenger seat in my 6.9.

Hardest part is sorting throgh all the albums so you just leave it on shuffle - and it backs up all my photo's to an extra bit of removable storage as well.
