Red Bull in drive with the engine warm. Should I be concerned that it's not at max? It'll be interesting to see if the oil and filter change (plus a clean of the tank) will make any difference. I'd say it's been a while since a service....

Based on my limited experience, no. While it is warm and not under load, mine drops below full too, although perhaps not quite as low as yours. Once you load it (mild acceleration or more:D), it should smartly hit the upper limiting pin.

It's impossible to judge unless we know the quality of the oil and the viscosity rating. With high quality oil and a rating of, say, 20-50, and a truly hot engine (not just warm) I would be quite happy if the oil pressure sat on just one bar. pressure or a fracction higher.
If in doubt, connect a master gauge for a check.
I can tell you though that you are low on fuel (but you already know that!!).

Brian

Mark depends on your idle revs, but from where I sit, you have nothing to be concerned about. As long as the needle jumps to full reading when you increase the revs. - even driving along on a trailing throttle and, say, turning into a corner, the needle can drop a little bolow the top reading. Changing oil and filter will help a little - as you know, these cars need to be driven and changes are that you will get an even more favourable reading once that engine has had a chance to settle down. Brian with the engine running and the bowser going flat out, the light stays on and the fuel gauge doesn't move!!!! LOL! ;)

Yes the pressure hits max at a hint of throttle. It's the same with all the other cars. Blue Flame's pressure was even lower at idle, but it needs a tune badly. Obviously idle speed has an effect. Not sure if it's better now after I changed the oil etc, as I moved onto Red Bull pretty quickly. And I can tell you Red Bull's oil was pretty horrible, but the engine doesn't appear gummed up. Time will tell when I pull the rocker covers to check the chain.

I used 10W-40 in Deep Blue and since then it seems to have developed a noisy lifter. Or it could be an exhaust leak from the extractor gasket. I've yet to check it carefully. If it is the lifter, I'll go back to the thicker 15W-50.

I'm trying the 10W-40 in both Blue Flame and Red Bull. I figure that the original oil was about that viscosity and if the engines can run fine on it, then I might get (slightly) more power. So far there's been no noises...

"Brian with the engine running and the bowser going flat out, the light stays on and the fuel gauge doesn't move!!!! LOL! " = NORMAL

I would probably use 15-50 but then it could be the exhaust gasket leaking a bit...giid luck. BTW, a noisy lifter can last a very long time before you need to do anything much about it. Ear muffs?

Brian
