Oil filters

Having looked at this I am a bit surprised by the Fram as I thought it would do better:

I only use genuine filters but perhaps I should question that as well. I got a free filter with oil I bought for the ML but the filter looked so flimsy that I cut it open rather than risk using it and like the Fram it was falling apart inside. I don't recall the brand - maybe it was a Repco home brand.

I use only Genuine Filters.. all filters built down to a price of course, but at least the Car manufacturers have control over their quality. Though, even if the after market supplier is OEM, then like tires, there is no guarantee that they meet the original specs for when the Car was new.

I prefer the old style cartridge filters to the spin on because you can look at the filter and also inspect it once removed from the engine. I never really understood why so many jaguar people want to convert older XK engines to the spin on type.
