280 SL cruise control

Have fitted an after market electric Cruise control to my Grey Import 107 280
S L . Works like a charm ! I'm very pleased with the car now, Auto sorted , Air sorted, engine purs like a kitten and with new Michalen tyres , it is smoother than our new C200.

Good day, Sean. Good to hear from you. As a matter of considerable interest, do you think you'd be able to forward details of the work carried out, what was involved and, if you are comfortable enough about, would you be able to tell us what it cost ?

On our 116s, cruise control units are quite troublesome on account of their age, and an after market alternative could well provide an excellent alternative. Regards Styria

Another specialist who has been a big help is Jeff from Afordable Radiator Repairs. 98995041 He has the equippment and rebuild kits for the York Air Con. Compressors. We rebuilt mine togather, be does not mind working this way as long as you know what you are doing. ........ Other work carried out.......
To get "any " Auto Trans to work properly it is essential to have good vacuum i.e,. the engine tune right. For my SL with the 110 DOHC six that ment with vacuum disconnected 36 % mechanical BTDC at 3500 RPM. The 750 idle came in at 10 % before, so the distributor was not worn. Check that the retard and advance vacuum is working ok . Without the idle retard working the engine tends to stall in traffic. An engine pulls better with slight retard, learned from my Motor cycling days riding Trials Bikes. With this sorted the 3-4 flare was sorted by a careful balance of modulator adjustment and shift speed control cable. The shifts are sligtly late on medium throttle but ok on light - medium with nice part throttle kick down. Desirable with the smaller 2.8 engine.
