Vacuum Lines to Cruise Control Modulator

On a rainy Sunday morning I decided to tackle a squeaky low speed fan noise.

While poking around I came across a large black vacuum line that looks like it was connected somewhere in the past but is now sitting free.

The other end connects to a screwed fitting on the Cruise control modulator with a separate vacuum line which is functional (The cruise control itself works fine).

I am assuming that it is merely a vent for the other side of the vacuum diaphragm and will look through the diagrams later tonight but wonder if anybody knows if this is really simply a vent or I whether I have a problem.

Im curious too. My 450SL, 280SE and AMG all have thick black lines that look like they ought to go somewhere but dont. Trusty rusty's one disappears through the firewall to who knows where.

Anyway - the correct term is the cruise control actuator.

As you can see from the picture it is not a vacuum fitting but screwed onto the assembly with a plastic nut.

It is possible that the other end just fitted into a sleeve in the heater intake ducting but I couldn't find a nipple anywhere so just left it in the back of the dash.

Hi WGB, Mercules and I were unable to work out the other night as to where the piping/cable/tubing went to. I guess someone will find out one day and then we'll all know. Regards Styria

I had all the ducting out of the LH side of my car and it just appeared to go nowhere - stopped under the dash.

It is possible that there is a tit on the large rubber connector which connects the intake air into the heater box/condensor.

This seems to be moulded and if there was a connector it is possible it is sight unseen on the firewall side.

I am sure the air is clean enough where mine ends to act as a vent withouit any problems.

Hi WGB, this is an old thread which ended somewhat abruptly at the time. Seeing that you replaced your fan not so long ago, did you ever find out where this vacuum line finishes ? As I have previously said, I haven't a clue (not unusual, I might add). Regards Styria
