HELP! Which m110 engines are K Jet that fit the 280 SLC

Hi People,

I have a 1978 280 SLC and I need a new engine for it, I have found a 1980 280 SE however he doesn't know much about cars and was under the impression that it was running the old injection system (would that be D Jet?) as it was imported to Australia from South Africa as they don't have the emmission controls over there that we did here.

I am hoping that its a K Jet but I have no idea how to tell the difference if I go and look at it.

Would you please be able to help me out, it would be greatly appreciated!

or if you know of a good cheap m110 engine around Gold Coast.

My advice is to put a 6.9 in it, or a Prius driveline

Yeah sorry about that guys, been over working in Singapore since mid June, I only just checked your responses last week. That being said I did reply to everything origionally on the first page just not the few replies on the second page ie. after I left

if its a 1980 280SE it will be K Jet. D Jet Ceased in 1975/6.
If you post a pic its easy to see the difference.

Its in a donor car that I am looking at buying, hence I can't get a picture, just wanted to make sure first.

Would the engine be a straight swap into the 280 SLC?

If not do you know which cars have an engine that will be a straight swap into the 280SLC?

You will probably have to use the current exhaust manifold on the SLC and maybe swap some more fittings

Hope the "donor " engine is ok ?
As Michel said, you will need to swap exhaust manifold + engine support brackets, accelerator linkage and some piping for power steering .

Thank you for this, that doesn't sound like much work for the exchange, the engine is okay and is in a running car now, has 229,000kms but its an old retiree who has owned it for its whole like and apparently has all the paperwork servicing etc and is in a registered driving car right now.

I can buy it for $600 then scrap the car for about $300 so its really only cost me $300 for the engine plus $900 labour which works out to be $1200 give or take, does that seem reasonable?
