Here I was thinking it was a W108 280SE 3.5 and got all excited - only to be disappointed to see it was a W116. Still a nice one, but the price belongs more to a W108.

In saying that I think the price is OK I am making a big assumption - that it is rust free. So many cars in the UK are rusty because of the salt and damp that people in the UK are now starting to import Royces and Bentleys from here just to get a good one - and this is despite the fact that there is over 70kilos of antirust and sound deadening goo (not sure what it actually is) sprayed under the floorpan of a Royce or Bentley since the late 1970s.
Thus, if this car is 100% rust free - if there is any such thing in the UK - then it's not too bad a price. Just my way of looking at it. Years of owning Lancias has me scared of rust!

Brian

.....but, it has Mexican Hat Alloys ! Whoever got hold of that description of the venerable Bundt/Baroque alloy wheel. Amusing. Regards Styria

N.B. Well, it does look nice - what was the price again ?

You must be slipping Styria - I though you would pick up the overspray on the spare wheel well and the red sills....and the somewhat matte finish to the rear quarter on the driver's side....:D:D:D:D
I still maintain it is a very smart example.
Regards,
Brian

To be honest, I really did not wish to look at the car too closely. Unfortunately, as with most used 116s for sale, invariably one can find fault and shortcomings in a number of areas. This applies particularly to the interiors of these cars, such as collapsed pleats, front door boards where the foam has turned to dust, grubby carpets etc., but to constantly criticise, one gets, or can get a reputation for being the 'eternal knocker', and that is a reputation I really do not wish to attain.

BenzBoy, I am speaking purely from my own perspective - absolutely nothing to do with anyone else that may offer opinions regarding a car's condition. You may remember Zixtus - one of our members that joined several years back. He is, or was the owner of two 6.9s, and when there was some adverse comment in relation to another car (not his), he expressed his displeasure at us knocking a particular car. Despite some attempts on my part to remain in contact with him, that has proved a futile exercise. So that's where I am coming from. Regards. Styria

And this car has the most amazingly pristine interior - the underneath of the wheel arches is immaculate etc. I gave the opinion that I thought it was worth the price asked. You disagreed, of course.
Why don't you come to French Day tomorrow and you can find as many faults as you want with my 306GTi6 and I will cheerfully agree with you. Yes? That will help me improve Mr Fast and Furious.
Regards,
Brian

No BenzBoy, there was absolutely nothing I disagreed with that you may have written or offered an opinion on. I simply had never really taken the opportunity to look at the advertisement. All is good. Regards Styria
