Only a guess but 220 - rear door contacts - I would think means the rear doors work the interior light.

That is a good car to own and is so much simpler than a 6.9 so long as the carbie is trouble free and remains untampered with.

I expect that with some guidance you will start to get your hands dirty with this one Des.

Yes but maybe in a different way,

there are a few parts I can use on my W114, as this one needs paint and the steering is fairly worn. So I may ether get into racing or part it out,

we'll see,

I do have one question for you guys, what is this light that is on for?




Is it the brake pad warning light?

I know W123's have that feature,

seems to go off and on randomly as you drive along, but the brakes work, handbrake works....

As you can see she is missing about half the paint,


As I know absolutely nothing about body repairs, other than what can be done with a crowbar and a hammer, I thought I would have a go at the paint myself.

Likely to be front brake pads just worn through and the sensor on one side making intermittent contact..

As far as the steering goes you can adjust the slack out of the steering box in a 280 very easily with the box on the car and all the ball joints and steering linkages come in for around $100 from AutohausAZ.

Throw in another $100 or so and all the top arm rubbers can be replaced.

At this point it will probably steer quite well.

Yes it is the park brake but it also comes on if the brake fluid is low. That's how it supposed to work but a couple of troubleshooting tips:
-Unlike the 6,9 you had, this one has a dual brake circuit and one of the fluid level sensors could be faulty like it was on my 350. There's three caps on the reservoir, the one in the middle is for filling, the other two have sensors underneath.
-Secondly, it could be the park brake switch is faulty.

I just saw WGB's post,

I thought the sensor warning light is usually on the right side but is blank on this cluster so you wont have wear sensors in the brake pads. If you see wiring for the sensors near the wheel hubs, the cluster has been changed.

I had a look at that car by pure accident actually, I was driving out of Hobart a few weeks ago and spotted it by chance, remebered where I had seen it, but no, that car looked like it needed a lot of work.
