Without revealing too much, I’m at the scanning stage with the theory stuff completed.... ish!!

Pics may or may not throw off potential copycats!! Don’t worry, I plan to manufacture enough manifolds for anyone interested!

I see room for lots of improvements despite their neat machining.... And at $28k I doubt they’ll sell many kits!

That's going to run seriously hot with all those polished alloy components, the radiant surface areas would be about 20% of the factory finish.

That particular restoration shop seems to have a fetish for billet aluminum. At one point they were pushing billet gearbox cases for E-Types. Not really sure why as it would just make for a noisy gearbox. They seem to have quietly dropped that one though.

There is a 7.4 litre M100 in the works for a 300SEL 6.3 that I know of . The fact I may walk past these parts regularly is immaterial .

A case of aesthetics over metallurgy (see what I did there) ;)

Looks very interesting & good to see someone trying something different! Is this in Australia??

Can someone please explain why a polished surface would increase the temperature? I thought Benz went for the alloy air cleaners to reduce heat soak (and weight)?? I would’ve thought a black finish would be hotter since it absorbs all light etc?

The company doing the work is called Classic Jaguar, based in Austin TX. While they are called Classic Jaguar, they do restoration for other marques as well. Their origins is doing E-Types. This is the first time I have seen them do a Mercedes though. (doesn't mean its the first time they have done one). Mostly the other stuff seems to be cars like Astons and old Ferraris etc.

Having an interest in old Jags, I look at their blog from time to time.

Polishing removes the hills and valleys of the original cast surface, reducing the surface area available for the transfer of heat from inside to out as the heat is generated inside the engine. The black surface absorbs heat from an ambient source.

Looks like it’d be ideal for forced induction & may also fit under the bonnet. They’ve done some great work on the engine, but I think there’s improvements that could be made elsewhere....

Hey they invented some lovely features like Automatic oil changes . Never had to worry about them as oil was never in the engine long enough to have to change it. I had a old Ducati 900SD years ago . it was similar . It also had Window operating system years before Microsoft. Worthless In Night Day Or Water .

My experience has been good with leaks and mechanical issues. Actually the Jag is far less leaky than other cars I have.

The main issues i've had pertain to somewhat sensitive electrics and the early dunlop disc brakes.

The electrics are a striking contrast to a mercedes of the same era.

How does a 6.9 (or even a 450) even breathe through this thing??? It’s now been proven the stock air filter housing restricts flow into the air flow meter. And that’s just the start!
