Alright so I know they are specific to the 6.9, but is it both ends or just the inner ends which are longer?

One of my outer ends is shot, got about 5mm play in it. Was hoping to get away with changing that one end - can I use one from a normal W116?

I.

I was under the impression that 6.9s have the W123 part, with only the early versions (like mine) having the extra-long inner end. I would suggest that OEM brands will last a lot longer than aftermarket.

I replaced mine about 6 months ago with the cheap aftermarket Karlyn brand and the boots have already cracked. The car has only been driven around the block a few times. In contrast, the original TRW drag link still has perfect boots and they are right next to each other. Lemfeorder, TRW and Febi-Bilstein are the ones to go for.

You can purchase the 6.9 version OEM ends by themselves from the usual online parts vendors.

Edit: Even if you have the early version with the long inner end, I suspect that the outer ends are indeed the same as other versions, unless they are a different diameter. I haven't checked that.

Without double checking, I think the whole inner/outer assembly is 6.9 exclusive. I think you can interchange with other, cheaper units, but they would not be as strong and also Ithink that a lot of "screwing out" adjustment is required. It's not my preferred option. Regards Styria

Both outer tie-rod arms and ball ball joints are the same as fitted to the 123.

The central arm under the sump is 6.9 specific and presumably is to give clear the sump.

I have purchased new arms from autohausaz at minimal cost but the ball joint rubbers are rubbish and crack after only a few months as TJ has reported.

I have changed all mine with replacement rubber boots as the ball joints themselves seem quite OK.

So I should be right if I just order W123 Febi steering tie rods?

My drag link looks OK but I think the shock absorber is also groany. No groany like low-power-steering oil groany, just worn-out shock absorber groany.

Hi Ian,

I'll have a look through the EPC tonight when I get some time but I am sure I am right about them being 123 parts.

The other optoion is to look on the http://www.autohausaz.com site and see if they are the same part number.
