A pleasing observation: on a just-completed 1300 km trip, my AUS 625-spec 6.9 recorded 16 litres per 100 km - still at the lower end of the factory range after 47 years and 206,000 km!

Hi David, nice to hear from you again.. As you correctly pointed out, the consumption of 16L/100 is a little at the lower end of fuel consumption - I have always felt that 17L/100 was just about right for an Australian complied car with the lower 8:1 compression engine. Perhaps with more use, your car could achieve that slightly better figure.
From a personal point of view, with me being the 30 year long owner of "My Gleaming Beauty" with its non-complied 8.8:1 compression engine, fuel consumption is somewhat improved. It's been a number of years since I have used my car on a regular basis, and I can probably go back say about fifteen years since I have engaged in long distance touring. In those days, my fuel range on long trips would always yield about six hundred kilometers starting up with a full tank, so therefore the consumption worked out to about 19 to 20 mpg. I also took part in Economy runs, and on one occasion the car managed 21 mpg. - a truly remarkable figure. One of these days, I may just splurge and fill up the tank fully, and set off another lengthy trip just to see what consumption the car would return. Regards Styria
