I believe changing the oil every 5,000kms.

Question is which one of the following oil viscosity's should I use?

20W60 HRP 30
10W40
15W40 Everyday Driver
15W60

Should I use Mineral or Synthetic oil?

Oil change for the 300SE requires 6ltrs and a new oil filter.

Going to use Penrite oil would you agree or disagree to use this brand of oil?

Thank you.

I like Penrite products Tim, I use them in my cars and used them exclusively when I had motorcycles.

I'm not sure about the 126 but the 109 and 116 require oils with a zinc additive, ZDDP I think, to reduce wear on top end components, cams rockers etc. Might be worth checking or someone here may know more about this

Penrite 15W-40 Everyday Premium mineral oil.

I will need 1 5ltr and a 1ltr top up bottle.

300SE requires 6ltrs for an oil change.

Will be using a Mann oil filter.

Okay hit a snag here!

The top up bottle Penrite 15W40 1ltr is semi synthetic.

The 5ltr bottle is the mineral based oil.

Question is can I use the semi synthetic as the top oil if I am going to use the mineral oil?

Buying the oil from Supercheap online and there website is so slow!

Cheers.

It's not the distance driven, it's the time intrerval that is important.

A car that is driven often, but covers a short distance (say 1,000) klm, over a six month period will need an oil change just as much as a car that has been driven 15,000 klm over six months.

Almost all of the combustion product nasties accumulate in the oil within the first 5 kilometers, while the engine is warming up. Not even the best quality oil can get around this factor.

That is why a distance / six months alternative is stated on the oil windscreen sticker.

You could probably get away with a nine month oil change interval with a 6.9, because of the 12 litre oil change capacity. I'll betcha MB would not reccomend that, however.

I have had personal advice from Nulon that for a 6.9, a mineral based oil would be best, because that is what the oil seals were designed for.

On the same basis, synthetic oil would best for current cars.

Peter you say 6.5ltrs thought it would 6ltrs?

MB Owners Manual recommends 6ltrs.

Cooling system requires 8ltrs from memory?

Cheers.

Okay guys a big thank you for the advice as always.

Rang 6 Super Cheap stores to ask if they had 15W40 Everyday mineral for sale in a 1 litre bottle.

The first 5 stores all said 'no mineral 15W40 1ltr bottle'.

Well I nearly gave up then like I said phone the Raymond Terrace store they said 'yes we have 3 bottles of 15W40 1ltr bottle'.

Well I thought Christmas come very early I only need one bottle.

1ltr bottle has been put aside for me pick it up on Sunday on my way to the Motorfest.

15W40 5ltr is sitting in the boot of the Battleship.

Long story short a great outcome which is excellent!

Holy heck Brian 4.5 galoons of oil for PII!
:eek::eek:

Back to TG hope it's a good show?

300SE serviced 6.5ltrs Penrite 15W40 Everyday Premium Mineral.

300SE received a clean bill of health NO suprises there!

MB Mechanic used a Mann oil filter.

Mechanic has had 3 SL Mercedes in his workshop this week all 3 SL's had front seized brake calipers.

Hey Michel there was a red 1983 380SL in the workshop 210,000kms one owner for the last 30 years.

Sorry to say 380SL was not for sale nice looking car.

New tyres, service all done now.

Rego due next month might shop around for CTP & Insurance prices.

I heard on the radio yesterday that CTP prices were going to decrease just like Victoria?

NSW Govt wants to see a decrease in the cost of CTP prices.

Anyhow 300SE drove to and from Newcastle like a dream.
