Somehow Des that doesn't really look like me but thanks for the thought.

I tried again with the 560 aircleaner and the hoses are an impenetrable jungle in a RHD 6.9.

In the meantime the battery in my 450 died so I transferred my 6.9 one out and purchased a new Genuine 100 Ahr Mercedes one covered with stickers that profess the same.

This stops any attempt to run a hose down the right hand side of te engine permanently so any further effort will be added to the existing horn.

What sort of price did you pay for your MB Battery Bill?

I asked some months ago my mechanic who normally gets all my parts for me and the only source of genuine MB batteries he could get, quoted him between $300-600 for one.

While I didn't expect it to be a $79 battery, $300 is pushing it a bit.

I have great faith in genuine M-B batteries as they have never let me down and usually last more than 5 years even in our extreme WA climate.

18 months ago I was doing some work on my wife's ML270 and when I had finished after a week or so it was a little lethargic to start so I asked at the local agents what a new battery was worth and was very surprised to hear that it was $199 with a discount. It is a 100 Ah with the correct size and configuration to fit a 116 exactly so I purchased one put it in the ML and used the old one in my 450 where it finally died after 6 1/2 years of use.

I thought I would buy another $199 one and put it in my 6.9 and put the perfectly adequate one in my 450.

First battery they brought out was for a 164 and was incorrect for the 116 - the price was $746 before discount!!!!!!!

They then returned with the correct 163/C class battery and announced it was $450!!!! I asked about the battery 18 months ago and they said that was a special lot and that they were cheap and that they could do this one for $340.

So that is how my 6.9 got to have a $340 battery with Genuine Mercedes stickers over it.

I can't imagine the margins they must have if they can drop the price from $450 to $340, and no doubt still make a profit. The battery I got for the 350 was $220, and while it's the correct size (DIN85 I think), it's certainly not a Mercedes special.

My Mum's 1999 W168 A Class' original battery gave up about a month ago. The replacement was about $300, from the dealer. These batteries are somewhat smaller than those specified for W116's though.

I purchased the largest battery with the deepest current draw that I could find. Car started beautifully after that.
