Well , I have had a satisfactory result on sorting a reluctant A/ Valve by introducing the Subaru Induction Cleaner via the vacuum retard hose. Now starts cold at 1000 RPM , then increases to about 1200 after one minute before dropping to 800 after about five minutes . I use a 82% thermostat.
I'm no longer tempted to remove the inlet manifold to fit the spare valve I refurbished. It's buried somewhere under air flow meter and inlet manifold
(110 engine. )

But maybe it was just a coincidence and the thing just sorted its self out as the car is now used on a regular basis as my drive car.

The Subaru product is used on their Boxer engines which have a tendency to gum up the inlet system. Remove an inlet hose and squirt two thirds of the pressure Pac in with engine stoped. Wait for 4 or 5 minutes and start, then squirt the remaining contents in whilst running at a fast idle to prevent stalling. Any rough unsteady idle will be cured. Recommended at every Service , but once a year is fine. Also the Porsche Boxer engines are sorted the same way. It's probably only the later injected engines with the " Hot Wire Sensor " in the Air Flow Meter that suffer. Also useful to free up sticky valves in any engine. Worked a treat on an old Riley I had a couple of years ago.
