air flow meter

Hows everyone doing? my 6.9 79 model has an air leak around the base of the air fow meter, i sprayed carb cleaner around he base and the idle slowed down, my question is do the air flow meter have a gaskets between the halves?

Welcome to TK!!! I doubt there's a gasket; perhaps a bolt's lose, or the housing has warped? Apparently air leaks are common at the seals between the two halves of the intake manifold, but I'm not sure if that'd cause a fast idle, or misfire.

You may have a leak around the auxillary air valve, as those hoses often go hard and break.

thanks for yoyr reply, i will take some pictures and post them soon, right now the car has been stripped of all interior and fenders trying to do a partial restoration, the car has been undriven for 16 years, ive replaced most all fuel components and now i'm tryng to get it running enough to put on road to see how she does, it idles good, but as soon as i give it throttle it backfires from intake, have tried everything, just to add tonight i notice the egr got extremely hot , the heat melted the plug wire next to it, maybe someone can offer solutions, thanks again.
