Quote from local Auto Electricians $118 air con re-gas.

Good value for the re-gas?

R134a gas is what the Auto Elec will be using.

Last re-gas was carried out two years ago by Auto Elec in the Bay.

Have not run the air con much over winter maybe a few times to demist the w/screen and windows that is about it.

Air con was cold well it certainly felt cold whilst in was operating.

Go and see if the Auto Elec let him check it out tomorrow.

If it was cold, then why do you need to re-gas?

Good points raised by Michel & Motec.

Going to be quite a warm day here at home good chance to switch on the air con and to test it out to see how cold it is.

300SE needs a fill up was going to use BP 98 Octane for a change.

Usually use BP 95 Octane.

I'd be interested to see if the 98 Octane makes any difference,
My understanding has always been that the Compression Ratio dictates the Octane required and that using a higher Octane with a modest C/ratio gave no benefit. I suppose that "modest " is lower than 9 to 1 ???????????

Hi Sean that is my understanding as well. But owners manual for 6.9 states minimum off 98 Ron fuel rating. And Euro has 8.8 compression ratio .

Re Gas ???? As the Yanks say..... If it ain't broke don't fix it.

With using 98 ... I don't notice any difference with 95 in my Euro 280 107 SL

Though I do add an additive and also some synthetic Two Stroke Oil.

I have been advised that the Un Leaded fuel is very " Dry " and given that the K Jetronic System is purely mechanical a little lubrication is necessary.

I don't know if the additives for valve seat recession provides lubrication as well. ..... Anybody ??

I believe they do I use some every second tank on my 6.9. It does make a noticeable difference with the 6.9 between 98 and 95 which I find surprising given compression. I think Mercedes must have advanced ignition on kjet cars to need higher octane as you said compression is not that high. :)

interesting point about Ign. timing..... I use 5/6 degrees advance over Factory specs and maybe I do get pinging with 95, but I don't hear too well !
So I'll stick to 98 in the future as there is the additional benefit of extra additives to keep the system clean.

I remember using 98 in a 1913 Rudge Motor Cycle 5.5 to 1 C/R. Up until then the performance was flat.
Altering the Valve timing and Ign. Timing to no avail.
With 98 there was a significant improvement.
So bang goes my theory of low Octane for low compression !
The factory V/timing was 10% " After " TDC. Any advance from that and low down power was lost.
They must have known what they were doing as Rudge won the Isle of Mann Senior T. T. that year with this O/head inlet / side exhaust Engine.

My 6.3 pings on 98 even though I've taken 3-4 degrees out of the ignition, so I add 1L of toluene to each 100L tank and it hammers. I don't know how much has been taken off the heads in the past so cannot determine the actual C/R. I suspect the dizzy may have wear issues, it is about 30-32 degrees advanced at 3000 rpm but is not a steady reading

could be the advance curve in your 6.9 distributor is way too enthusiastic
maybe clippings the wings of the light spring will slow down the advance to stop the ping.

Filled up the 300SE this morning with BP 98 which cost $1.67 per litre and it cost $101.78 for a full tank.

The cost of 95 was 10 cents cheaper at $1.57 per litre and the 91 was $1.45 per litre.

Cost of fuel in Newcastle is expensive for Premium the local Newspaper featured an article about the cost of fuel prices in Newcastle locals are not happy!

Beautiful Spring day in Newcastle switched on the air con not long after filling up temperature was 22 here at home today.

Glad to report the air con was more than cool enough.

Called into the Auto Electricians engine and air con running he said that air con is just fine no need for a re-gas.

Have been driving the Mercedes for a few hours today with the air con running cool as a cucumber behind the wheel!

Here is the Newcastle Herald article about the fuel prices.

Purchased a new radiator cap from Hunter Star $32.42.

Old rad cap the black plastic or rubber seal I think that is what the seal is made out of?

It was worn out thought it best to replace the cap with a new genuine rad cap.

Have heard shocker stories about radiator caps for Mercedes purchased from eBay!

Checked out the new C250 sedan there was a red and a blue sitting outside the showroom.

Well I am was very impressed with both of the C-Classes opened the door and that 'new car smell', and the smell of the leather very nice!

So many shiny new Mercedes for sale what a shame I could not afford one oh well keep saving I guess.

There was a black W220 S-Class besides that my car was the oldest but certainly did not look out of place amongst all of the superb Mercedes.

Parts Manager said why not take a copy of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz Collection brochure how could I say no that!

Purchased a Meguairs clay bar kit today and also micro fibre towels from K-Mart which were $4 each and they are a 6 pack of towels.

Someone is going to be busy detailing his car before the Concours!

Need to buy a new Mercedes t-shirt as well have to look the part on the day of the Concours right!

Really enjoyed my day and being at the Mercedes Dealership was the highlight for sure!

Pity Fuelwatch didn't get of the ground over east as you could see price of fuel at every service station in your area at a glance. :)

Exactly right Motec!

Also a Facebook page informing people in the Newcastle area(s) the price of fuel which can be very helpful.
