New vs the Old.

My fuel efficient, for the time ,110 6 cyl 107 Sl , returns 27 MPG out of town on a good Day. But compared to my modern 1.4 Turbo VW Golf it's a Gas Guzzler. A return trip to Yellow Rock in the Blue Mountains today worked out at 58.85 MPG. Who needs a Diesel . Yellow Rock is about 10 Ks inland ,on the Left, half way to Katoomba. I was sitting on 110 and 100 ks on the M4. Rest of the time at the posted limits. Performance wise there is no contest, the 6 speed Manual Golf is a rocket Ship , fitted with a Tuning Box from Germany giving about 20 % increase in Torque and H.P.

Could be worse , I could have 6.9 as a Club Car !!!! Sorry Styria.

I find mine to be acceptable in its fuel consumption. But then I have run engines a lot bigger in the past .

Not a criticism of the 6.9s ... just a comment about the progress of 30 years.

Just tug the steering wheel hard to the right when passing a petrol Station !!!

Happy Motoring

Tech has come a long way for sure.... But anything weighing so much with just a 2.8 is gunna chew fuel. 6.9s do it far easier, but a continuous injection system suggests it will never be superior to a pulsed design. A Dkubus system will drag the thing into the 90s.

At the end of the day, if it's only a weekender who cares?

Yes Helmet, as the Yanks say, there is no free lunch !

Energy saving via low fuel consumption....I suspect the the energy used to produce today's throw away Society far exceeds any savings driving down the road. Advice from a European Car Specialist friend, is to trade in once the warranty expires. Will be cheaper in the long run avoiding expensive Repairs not to mention the inconvienice and aggravation

It's probably somewhat idle talk and a well coined phrase to affirm that if you cannot afford the fuel, you do not own a gas guzzler. An old guy, when doing some gearbox work on a Rolls Royce Cloud 3 suggested that $20.00 wouldn't even cover the bottom of the tank. That was about twenty five years ago.

Regarding the 6.9 and my Gleaming Beauty, I used to take great pride and derive considerable satisfaction in obtaining twenty miles to the gallon on country trips. For 6.9 litres, I thought that was quite exceptional. I still say that a 6.9 can be regarded as a Super Car, despite the fact that probably five and a half dozen cars will blow it to the weeds when it comes to achieving 0 - 100 times. That is not the point. What matters is the tremendous torque, especially when on the move and moving to the 2000 rpm marque. Always puts a smile on my face when I pull back to second gear and let her rip.

Regards Styria

No one can expect a 70s Supercar to get good fuel consumption! In fact those words shouldn't be used in the same sentence!

BTW have you heard the one about the Veyron??? 12mins flat out before it's empty....

Satisfaction is the name of the game Styria. What ever turns you on !

Enjoy the Torque. That's what does the work.
