Just fitted the new radiator cap this morning.

Glad I replaced the old cap as the black plastic seal or gasket was quite badly perished.

Temp gauge has been fine the 300SE in the last two years has never overheated always perfect temp all year round.

So it was still sealing then Tim. You now have spare.

Old rad cap looks to be the original cap seal was badly perished Motec.

New cap is shiny silver Concours Judges will be impressed surely?

Shiny rad cap would add a few extra Concours points well maybe not wishful thinking on my behalf! Lol.

could be the advance curve in your 6.9 distributor is way too enthusiastic
maybe clippings the wings of the light spring will slow down the advance to stop the ping.

I suspect that to be the root cause Sean, just need a round tuit

Just to clarify the radiator cap is a genuine part not a non genuine part.

How did I go off on a strange tangent?
