Air Bags work !

Alas I have tested the Air Bags in my Mk 7 Golf. All three including the Knee Bag. A possible write off, Crumple Zones mean what they say !

My own fault taking my eyes off the Road scrolling the Telephone directory.

A big wake up call late in Life. A sore neck to be checked today.

Oh Sean -I am so sorry to hear this! I hope you are OK - the car can be replaced but you are far more valuable than any car!

Thank you for the best wishes Gents,
Insurance now sorted with Allianz, who will either Repair, or Replace my Car with a New one, if they write it off. This applies to Cars up to two years old irrespective of Mileage. So my cost will be capped at the excess amount in any event.
Three Air Bags will be the most expensive Parts required.

So sorry to hear about your accident Sean.

The important part is that you are ok.
Be careful with the sore neck, do not ignore it.
Does YOUR green slip protect you as a driver? (some do, some don't)
In any case, see a doctor and document that sore neck after the accident, just in case it has a long term effect.
The problem with having an accident when you are not looking is the whiplash effect.

Talk about luck of the Irish ! We've all said it as long as you personally have come out of this alive and well - and to continue to pass on your inimitable observations on TK.

I guess we all think it could never happen to us - I am a firm believer that the majority of accidents (maybe 95 percent) have their origins in not paying attention to road and traffic conditions. It is not very often that they are due to reckless or irresponsible driving. Anyway Sean, you've come out of this alright, and that's important. Regards. Styria

Last Word on this ! ............ My fault intirely !
I was scrolling the phone numbers , in my Mobile Phone, useing a Steering Wheel Button , and not watching the Road !
Don't remember any bang from the 3 A. Bags, just a pungent chemical smell stinging my eyes and a cabin filled with Smoke.
And the moral to the Story is ......

Do NOT ever admit liability to the authorities or to your insurance company! You may find your insurance reduced on the grounds of contributory liability.
This applies to all of us - not just Sean.
Don't lie as that makes it worse. Just don't admit liability.
There is usually a question asked such as: What party was at fault. You can simply answer "not sure."

Wise words Brian... I'm pleased that the Forum has spread its wings and is not confined to all things specifically Mercedes , though that is the Core.
A lot of Clubs are fading ( Grey Hairs ) but specifically the narrow focused ones ie., a one crop economy.
