6.9 Transmission Rebuild

I received the new stator shaft and seal kit today.

Then, I noticed something odd... the part that presses into the bore of the bellhousing is a larger diameter on the new unit.





The part number is the same for all 3-Speed 722.xxx transmissions. What on Earth is going on here? The one that was pressed out of the spare 450 trans is the same as the one removed from the 6.9s bellhousing, a smaller diameter. It is an interference fit rather than being clipped in.

It looks as if it may need to be machined to fit.

So I gather some parts from a regular 450 transmission (D and K-Jet?) are interchangeable with a 6.9 transmission? I believe the 6.9 tranny has additional planetary sets; is that correct?

Long time no speak.

Not all have additional planetary sets, only the Euro versions I'm lead to believe.

I had no issues whatsoever using the 450 version front and intermediate shafts, but the output shaft remains the original 6.9 part with the additional planet gear. I've done more than 20,000km on it with no problems.

The 2 shafts you have pictured are not interchangeable and have different bell housings. The stator is only available from MB with the bell housing.
The splines don't look too bad on the old one

The issue was resolved though. I purchased the correct version that is pressed in with the rolled edge (same as original) for a Porsche 928 I believe.

The splines weren't too bad, but they are a weak point in the transmission so I thought best to replace it.
