Should be a quicky...

Usual cost for a steam clean of the engine / underbody of the engine etc.

And, is this the best way to get everything clean to do a good going over / search for any oil/fluid leaks etc?

...not that I got any leaks, not many anyway. Just wanna tighten everything up. :)

Are you asking?

Anything from $100 upwards.
I know a guy in Bankstown (Sydney's west) who does that on a hoist.
The whole undercarriage and engine bay for $200

:eek: that's like 5 times the going rate here in South Africa. If and when I do emigrate, I'm going to need to earn a lot more than I do here... but then again that shouldn't be difficult...

For years I did my own engine bay cleaning over the grass at the back of the block of units where I lived.
You simply buy a few cans of degreaser, warm the engine a touch and spray copiously anything ender the bonnet.
Five to 10 minutes later you put the hose on (preferably with a high pressure attachment on it) and voila....
Unless you had something nastily caked on, everything would look pretty.

As far as under the engine, I had a couple of ramps I drove the front wheels up on and that gave me enough clearance to do the "under engine/gearbox" section.

I usually clean my engine at one of the "Do it yourself" car washes. Only once have I had any problems with restarting, but that was years ago with a car I had just purchased with a filthy engine - it still had a wet film of whatever on it when I finished. Once I had it going again and heated up I rewashed it and never had to problem again.

Since then my engines have been fairly clean to start with and I have no problems restarting.

And if you are concerned about getting electrical components wet and damaging them, Swissvax make an excellent product called 'Engine Seal' to seal possible water ingress points. It is used before you wash the engine.

Thanks everyone!! All my questions answered.. (bout the cost and process etc)

Might just bight the bullet and take it to someone to shine it up under there. Much easier to know what's going on then.

thanks everyone! :)

A place called Rusden Motors at Fyshwick put my 6.9 up on a hoist and steam cleaned the underside of the car (not just the engine) for $60.

Dont know how much doing the engine bay would cost because I had that done by VIP detailing as part of a full detail.

Champion, i'll give them a yell early next week. Only need the underside of the engine done...not even the whole underbody.

Thanks mate! ;)
