Current 2 Litre 250 Turbo Engine ranges in out put from 135 HP to 180 HP
Lower Tuning version in Infiniti (for;) USA) ?, and high output for Europe Mercedes.
Flexibility ?

It’s quite amazing Sean, that basically the same engines, can do so much. High hp for performance, high torque for work or pulling power.

Some of our Volvo engines are used in a multitude of applications.

Stationary gen sets
Truck
Earth moving
Marine

The basic 13L engine when used in a truck maxes out at 550hp, but in a marine application (where it can be cooled better) can generate 1200hp.

It’s been happening for years Sean.

Only a select few still persevere with big capacity engines.

You need big undersquare capacity for torque, smaller capacity oversquare for horse power.

A lot of manufacturers now use compound turbocharging, or supercharged 3 & 4 cylinder engines of small capacity instead of big capacity 4 cylinders or small capacity sixes.

Thanks Patrick, I never quite understood the relationship between Bore size, and Stroke,:) and Torque. Including H. P..... I do recall a IAME Trade Night where the presenter said that H.P. sells Engines.... but Torque wins Races.

I recently was able to drive a VW Golf TSFI Blue Motion (2016 model) with about 40K.s on the clock. The amount of power from 1.4 litres was quite remarkable ,but what impressed me was the sheer willingness of that engine to want to accelerate further once I had reached the M4 speed limit of ninety kilometers an hour.

On my return, I drove a 6.9 that performed like a tractor - noisy, undergeared with a 450 diff. it has been fitted with, an unbelievably noisy gearbox and I was really quite disappointed when comparing the "mundane" Golf and the super, duper 6.9. It is just as well that my Gleaming Beauty is a 40% better car than the 6.9 I drove. Regards Styria

Thank you Michel for the wonderful insight to the advances in Turbo Charging.
If ever there was an illustration that Engineers built and run this world this is it:D

Great info there Michel.
Quite amazing how much power 100mls of petrol or gasoline yields.

In the right mixtures it is more powerful than TNT.

Styria,
You are so right.

I drive a new Chinese built MG hatch on the weekend.
I was “wowed” at the quality and the quietness from a country that still most would never consider.
And yes, it hauled arse!

One of my employees has a new MG Hatch, the non turbo one.
He reckons it couldn't pull a sailor of ya sister :) but his last ride was a 2013 Freelander so I think he's missing that turbo torque.

I have had a couple of really close looks at the Chinese built MG brand. There are of course the three versions, starting with abl567s employee the basic unit valued at about 16K. to 17K., and the next models run out at about 24.5K. and climbing to about $34K. At that price, the last named, it is quite a bit more realistically priced than the other "recognized" brands costing about $10K. plus more, which now certainly includes the Koreans who have become a little greedy now with their pricing.

The prospect of buying a major priced Chinese brand could be fraught with danger. Without going into politics, if the Chinese were to ever place an embargo on supplying Australia with its myriad of products, it would spell an absolute disaster for this country. I know it may never happen, but if it did, think of the implications - just follow the trail of no goods coming in, nothing would be sold by the retailers, shops would close,, Shopping centres would go under - well, it would be a disaster. So, I would steer clear of the Chinese on a long term basis, and choose Japanese (Honda), Mazda, and then the Koreans. I also like the new VW Crosses (T-Roc and another Roc !), but I am a little concerned as to their long term reliability. Yes, it could all be a gamble whichever way you look at it. Regards Styria

That's alright, get him a test drive of a 240D Automatic and then he'll get back to his MG thinking its like a rocket ship.

Very good points Styria.

However for the last few years warranty claims (something we study very hard at Volvo Group) have risen alarmingly for the Japanese brands, and significantly dropped for the Koreans.

Toyota was once “the” most reliable car on the planet, but not so over the last few years.

At present, there is no better warranty out there than the Korean offerings.
All because they can offer these warranty packages with confidence in their own product.

:eek:Spot on Patrick not expecting Warranty Claims is the reason.
Also if you are in the market for a double skinned Oil Tanker ...go to Korea.
Six Months from Korea and six years from Clyde Bank !!
Demarcation disputes.. you can't screw in that light bulb without an Electrician's Licence... Strike !!

I do wonder if Torque development is at the expense of H.P. and vice a Versa. After all what is Power.
One Man's meat is another Man's Poison perhaps.
