Engine bay photos

Sorry for the delay posting photos of the engine bay out in the direct light.

You can see the rocker cover needs to be repainted as the paint is flaking and peeling off.

Ordered a new bonnet heat insulation pad should arrive in 10 days.

Insulation pad is the original pad 25 years old and also flaking and peeling off.

Anyhow have a look at the photos and see what you think?

OK - peeling paint+ scruffy and worn insulation pad + engine still not clean enough = not yet ready to enter Concours. Those items will need to be addressed Tim.

Yes rocker cover will need to be painted and hood insulation replaced. You could also ask Craig who did ceramic coating on his 6.9 manifold as that would lift appearance dramatically. Coating is available in cast iron finish and it will drop engine bay temp about 15 degrees so hoses will last longer. I had chrome look done to my custom extractors for that reason its proven to lower temp.

Front & rear bumpers also need to be repaired get that done before next years Concourse.

Paint is peeling off the front bumper noticeable just above the licence plate.

Rocker cover and insulation pad will be done first.

More work to do does it ever end I guess the joys of old cars?!

Sounds like a good idea to that myself.

Trying to stick to my budget when it comes to repairs sometimes I stay within budget and sometimes the budget blows out.

Pirates ahoy!!! On another note: I heard it was a full body wax!
Now seriously, Tim, did you know the engine bay was so bad and the bumper cracked when you entered the Concours?
You are wasting your time entering until those items are repaired. Sorry!

Sorry Tim I have to agree with Brian here . And no it was not a full body wax . Beard is still on but time is limited as my girls will not see me with a beard.

Concourse is an elite-level competition and that's not an elite engine bay; hence you didn't get the points required to win.

Same with the rest of the car; very clean yes, elite no.

Just remember the judges decision is final and not something that should be questioned unless there's obvious and proven impropriety.

Personally I couldn't be bothered since there's no scope to modify your car so it'll never have a chance to be better than it was when it left the factory. Plus it almost renders your car a very expensive garage ornament....

Go and get a quote to get the bumpers repainted.

I do have just under 12 months to get the bumpers repainted.

Like I said the insulation pad has been ordered should be arrive next week.

Speak to my Mechanic about removing the rocker cover and will get it repainted as well.

Get exhaust manifold ceramic coated at the same time they will look great in cast metal look . And they will always look great after doing.

Ceramic coated manifolds wouldn't take away the originality of the car?

Michel with your background in body shop repairs what sort of cost would be involved repainting the front & rear bumpers?

What would your spray painter charge to repaint the bumpers on the 300SE?
