This implies that lowering shocks/springs from a w126 sedan work on a w116. For example, will a lowering kit from SPAX, H&R, or Eibach fit a w116? I would think if this was true, they would list w116 in their fitment list but they never do. I know the rear springs are the same but are the front?

Shipping to USA make this auction cost prohibitive but I would love to win these. I can get w126 lowering kits here in the states. If anybody can confirm these work on w116 please respond.

From memory of an earlier posting on this forum, where the spring rates for the W116 and W126 were listed, the W126 had a softer rating, which would imply a longer uncompressed length. Anyone like to do a search of earlier listings to confirm this one way or the other?

May have been softer spring rates, but the AMG rates would be firmer than normal I would've thought?! I know that I've got the Bilstein sport type shocks in my w116 that are normally for a 126. I got them because they are a better fit than the 116 recommended model, due to the ol' girl being substantially lower than a normal 116.

Oscar, I reckon you should hit these up, hoping there's no bidding war from plastic gangstas who want a lower 280SEL with chromies!

If you weigh up the cost of custom springs VS a ridgy didge set of AMG springs, these would definitely be worth it... customs will cost you about 1k and you may not get them right the first time..

I'm thinking about it. The rear springs would be ideal and would be what I'm interested in the most. I haven't found if the fronts are compatible and the billies are old with no gaurantees but should be rebuildable if they're crappy. Thing is, despite the AMG tag they're still old used parts. Makes me wonder if once POVO has the weight reduced to a minumum that the ideal setup would be to get a custom spring maker like King Springs to make exactly what POVO needs. Cost would be about $150+ a corner just for springs but they'd be new and better suited for what povo does. For fronts though, I reckon even cut 450 springs would be good on a 280. And yet another option is to do a coilover conversion. Too many decisions and not enough $ to throw at them all.
