I went to the W116 model appreciation day today, with a mate & his 6.9. During part of the event the club was giving away duplicate copies from their magazine collection. To my complete surprise, I finally found a 10/2008 copy of Mercedes Enthusiast!! Not terribly revealing with info, but at least we know! Thanks Bill



Clearly a replica & the engine seems to be a later M117 and lacking the original’s AMG mods.

Sadly I think Bill missed out on seeing what the real Mampe car packed under the hood, so I’m happy to find out on his behalf! Oh here’s the Mampe specs compared to the CW311 M100.

Is that a header pipe running along the valley in the space where the intake manifold usually sits? Mad....

It looks like that but I think it’s the coolant outlet from the heads clearly modified

What’s also amazing about the Mampe race car is it ran an auto trans!! Yet it still was competitive with the other Euro Touring Cars!
