Hi,
as a new member I would like to introduce myself and the 450 SEL.
This is not my first Mercedes, I bought it a year ago from a neighbour who had spend a surprising amount to get most of the mechanical sorted.
I had to fix a few bits on the front suspension and the sticking heater flaps, a work where you wish you had very long fingers and more of them.
Instead of enjoying the car I decided to get it repainted. There was a little bit of rust on the rear trunk sides but that was quickly taken care of and then out came the paint striper.
I was a bit tense when we took the glass out, expecting rust in the window openings. But there was none.
At this point the car is painted and reassembly is next.
I have never put in glass in a Mercedes before. I have new front and rear glass and Mercedes rubbers, can anyone recommend an installer for that?
The rear parcel shelf carpet is not the original one and dreadful. I did get new speakers and grills from Königs in Germany, but I do not know what to do with the carpet. Now without the window would be the perfect time to change that.
Any one with recommendations? I can not even say what colour the carpet is. The seats are in a brown real leather, but it looks so good that I do think that the interior was remade.
The carpet is either “Tabac” or “Dattel”, although I find it to light for tabac but to dark for dattel.
Can anyone recommend somewhere to source a parcel shelf carpet?
And just to make my list longer, the AC has a tiny leak, it does not hold the vacuum long. Any reccomendations for a shop that knows what is does and does not charge the world?
Furthermore I am looking for a correct Hirschmann aerial and a period radio. There is a hole where the antenna goes and there is a hole where the radio belongs.
