Whoa...!

I like it! It looks like quite a classy car to me and yet it must fly like the wind.

Consider that a standard W116 6.9 tops the scales around 1,900KG's

A 107 is around 1400KG's from memory

I would guess this would make the car a sub 5 second car to 60 miles per hour.

VERY very nice ;)

I can't imagine many people would expect a 70's MB to be able to do that- it would leave so many cars for dead at the traffic lights. Not quite as much of a 'sleeper' as the W116 6.9 saloon maybe, but a sleeper none the less.

550NM of Torque.

That is some punch off the line....

AMG did, I had a picture of a factory fresh M100 being transplanted into a SLC from the 1970's at AMG factory.

see if I can find it.....

I've always wanted a W107 of some kind...though I'm in no rush mind you, just if I ever see one for a decent price I'd love one... and I reckon doing either a little work on a stock 450 engine (or whatever) or slotting in a bigger motor would be a lot of fun.

Fast sporty type car + 70's MB... yes please :)

Here you go Andrew, pickup this and that cheap 6.9 on ebay and start working on one:

http://tassiecars.com.au/detail.jsp?id=21322&ti=true

That's cheap... still a little out of my current range at this second...but....oh man it's tempting...

Does go to show they are a lot more affordable than I thought, I mean I've seen others for over $10,000 locally but that was a few years ago.

What's wrong with it?

I've had a look at it without driving it, had some rust from memory around the windows, could do with a respray (you know how metallic paint fades)

A little more info about how the car goes on the page would be nice...

Although, if I think of a way I can get it I could call them I suppose...

It was originally $6k, been sitting there for months, they also have a W126 SEC

I see, well I've got a lot going on at the moment financially (especially with that darn 350SE) so hopefully it just sits there a while longer.

Hi everyone, do we have some clever Computer/Whatever guys on TOPKLASSE - Admin. - Des - Michel - Hoddo - 6.9 forever ?

You may well ask the reason why. In relation to this magnificent 690SLC (!) that Des posted, the print on my computer is very small, so somewhat difficult to read. The text is in German, but I should be able to translate it in full. If the print could be enlarged, that would make it easier.

Additionally, if at all possible, it would be great to have this article in our Resources section - the extent to which this car has been modified is quite significant and well worth documenting. I have also googled 'Mercedes Tuning' and the information that's obtainable is mind boggling. Admin. may also wish to have a look at 'Euro Tuning' - one of the best designed sites I have ever seen. So, I am looking for some help and ideas. Regards, Styria

Stefan is a mate of mine (you'll see my name in mag article) .To get the car approved in Germany he had to submit for a TUV inspection. Part of this involves testing with a radar. Max speed is 252 kmh....As Stefan says.."not bad for an old car!".
To fit the engine in he has effectively lowered the front end with spacers because the M-100 engine is almost a meter high from dry sump housing to the top of the kjet.
the trans sat higher so a tunnel mod had to be carried out underneath to clear the drive shaft. The 107's are bit narrow too so the steering idler has to be moved or exhaust manifolds modified to clear.
His next plan is to install the complete hydro suspension from the donor 6.9 .A good idea as the W114 based front end is a bit tentative when asked to support a 6.9 engine!.
other body mods included fitting the oil tank into the right front inner fender and making a remote oil filter.

he was lucky in that he was able to speak with several old AMG employees who told him as many as 12 107's were fitted with M-100's including at least two 6.3's which are even higher, having a wet sump.AMG had a special bonnet with a subtle bubble to clear the bigger engines.
Theres a 7.2 liter AMG 350SLC in the US with a 5 speed trans and was built for the CEO of Dresder bank. That has to be the ultimate...!
This one omy own projects,a 73 450SLC i have the m-100 sitting in the shop ready to go in,I just need to find a trans .:)
