This clone is absolutely rare... well, in France:

OSTERMEIER produced 250 Gullwings in the 80s in California.
Most of the cars were sold to original 300SL owners, who preferred to use a car as Ostermeier everyday rather than a true 300SL.

cars were sold with a 2.8L or 3.0 six-cylinder Mercedes 180 horsepower.
Only two cars were built with the new AMG 3.4 six-cylinder 280 horsepower.
This car is one of the two cars.

I thought Mercedes Benz were crushing Gullwing copies ? It looks well made in the pics but it's still a copy . Can't believe the price . A bit like wearing a copy Rolex when you have a real one in the draw, who would do that?

I listened to a radio programme probably three to four years ago, discussing the merits of genuine and fake (copies) of desirable quality wrist watches. It was actually quite surprising that several callers, possessing both types of Rolex watches, were quite adamant that the copy kept better time.

Also, in this present day and age, taking to the streets, or going out at night, can be a bit risky. To mention one area or suburb ....Parramatta. The bus service past my home is still operated after 1 am, but I don't think that I would want to use the service in those hours in spite of on board cameras and communication facilities on the buses. So, if one must hit the streets, leave the genuine item at home and wear the fake ! I had occasion also to compare two Rado watches with the genuine one retailing for $2.5K. and the copy having been bought in Thailand - I couldn't pick the difference. Regards Styria - oh, and the fake kept equally precise times.

The fakes are much rarer than the originals, and I'll bet that they are much easier to maintain!

Ford Cobras and Ford GT40 copies and lookalikes abound. Owners of copies and lookalikes I will bet you, also own originals.
Copying is the best form of flattery.
