We went to register our daughter's 1981 380SL at Vicroads 2 weeks ago and it did not pass because the stamped VIN number could not be located. The tag is there, but that is not sufficient. Vicroads gave us a bit of time to find the VIN number and many hours have been spent looking over the car and contacting people for help. Still no luck. The car has now been referred to the police as a suspected stolen car It was previously registered in Qld but that does not stand in Victoria. We did security checks prior to buying the car locally and all seemed in order. Has anyone had this experience before? Any ideas would be much appreciated. The car needed a little bit of work and was a father/daughter project over nearly one year. This is her only asset and so we are keen to get it registered.
