Hi Grease Monkey, with a helmet sporting this brilliant colour scheme, how could you not turn out on the day ? As Michel said, we had a ball.

Whilst there were not that many guys on the circuit, including myself, the ones that were outthere absolutely gave it their all and there was some spectacular driving. None of the cars were really spared. No, it was great. Regards Styria

Just quickly-we got back just before midnight and upon quick review of some footage Povo's times were about 1:05 consistently towards the end there. Will load some stuff up later.

Nice to know you made it back safely Simon...

I was impressed with POVO..... and those times... Wow... That is a touch behind the times I was doing in the 690SEL

Hi abl567, what you're talking about ? He never did a thing, except to show off ! But Boy, did he make a success of it ! Big Time.

Michel, great stuff, thanks for everything - your driving was almost flawlewss, quite exhilarating to watch, but no way could I let you take 'Gleaming Beauty' for a spin.

I hope you understood. You know the usual - daily transport, took BB back to Prestons, David back home, me to work next day, just put new discs and pads on within the last fortnight, no insurance cover - please forgive me as I did not like to say no.

Big thanks also to SELfor50 and, shall I say so, his lovely girlfriend, as well as their friends all the way from Canberra (his mate had a body extraordinaire, a fab. sounding Commodore Station Wagon - and F - A - S - T -but no brakes after three laps, we also had bb with his 6.9 (sorry about your little problems), Ossie (Simon) and family all the way from Griffith and we also had the real pleasure of meeting up with Adytum (Tony) with his super sounding 450 SLC as well as Regie Wright in his 600 - boy, did he light up the first corner just about each and every time he came along TOTALLY out of control - in fact, he was the only one to show us how to spin without trying.

We also had abl567 (Anthony) with his well maintained and restored 6.3, and some club members (from MBCNSW) with their magnficently turned out 126 - 500 Couipe and another with a fabulous CLK55 AMG and Albie, Michel's wife look alike son with a very, very nice and efficionado Mitsubishi EVO 10.

I've probably left a few people out and to those I apologize. What a grand, and enjoyable day-enjoyment and camaraderie at its absolute best. Thanks everyone, and I mean heaps. Regards Styria

Michel, I really wouldnt be worried that styria didnt let you take the gleaming beauty for a spin, its probably a blessing in disguise considering the GB has lost its steering 3 times in the last couple of months:eek:

It was a great day out guys, thanks again for the great organisation of the event Michel! Can't wait for the next one.

Julie-Anne was a little shaken up after her meeting with the tyre wall, but she's OK, which is more important than anything else.

It seemed that the motorsport gods didn't want my car to survive the day.
We managed to get her back out there a couple times, though gradually issues snow-balled and caused other failures.
However, upon diagnosis, things aren't too bad and ol' silver will live to fight another day. :)

I was so happy to see Oscar out there in POVO sporting it up. After the resurrection he's given the car, it was very enjoyable to see him consistently gain momentum during the day. You looked like you had a ball out there mate, can't wait for next season!!

I have to say my high-light of the day was seeing Ulla (my mates Fiance) stay with the pack of the 2 SLC's. She almost made a move on the inside a couple times, but was scared of scratching the paint on my car. She said it looked way to nice to end up in a ding. :D

Great day all!!

Cam. :)

PS. Shouldn't polish your 'helmet' so much Greasemonkey, you may end up blind.

Well I can't take the credit for that.
In the days ('80s and '90s) before ebay and a load of TV shows about antiques making everyone an expert, I used to buy and sell at antiques fairs and markets in the UK in specialised in the Art Deco period.
A very collectable name in Deco ceramics from the '30s was (and still is) Clarice Cliff, and one of her handpainted patterns was called 'Broth'.
I at one time, had a few colourful pieces in this design, long since sold I'm sorry to say, but they were the inspiration for the design of my crash helmet.
Originally a blue and yellow FM made in Italy and bought in the early '90s when I was racing karts, I copied the pattern from a teapot !
True !
Glad you liked it.
Chris M.

ps - Now go and google Clarice Cliff Broth and see what turns up.......

Agree with everyone - great day. Well done to everyone to went out there.

I was verrrrrrry happy with how my 6.9 performed, but unfortunately an issue with the cooling system came up and it overheated. Not wanting to risk cooking a 6.9 motor, I gave the last session a miss. Still, got 3 sessions on the track and was left wanting more :D

Big thankyou's goto Styria for giving me a ride back from dropping my car off to be repaired, to Anthony and Ulla for giving me a ride back to Canberra in the Commodore come rocket ship, to Cam and Julie-Anne for organising to get me home once back in Canberra, and ofcourse Michel for organising the day.

.... to Anthony and Ulla for giving me a ride back to Canberra in the Commodore come rocket ship,

Nat said you guys zoomed past us on the way back. Sorry I didn't wave, I was fast asleep. That rocket exhaust didn't even wake me up.

I'm still processing the film to upload but since it's taking much longer than expected I better chip in. Let me say, what a blast! I'm hooked. And to top it off I came first in the m110 class. :D and last

Early days getting best time off the video but I think I punched out a 1:03:73 would you believe. I need to check that lap again and make sure the FF button wasn't pressed. POVO handled exceptionally well round the corners and I'm stoked and surprised I had no malfunctions. But WOT around most of the track, everything left me for dead on the straight.

Wish I could do the track again. It was a big haul to get there but I couldn't miss the opportunity to have a go before the track disappears. Back to making youtube clips, all will be in car from mine and Cam's cars. I don't know if anyone took trackside footage.

In the meantime a couple of photos. The funny thing is, of all the photos, my car is always in focus unlike everyone elses cars that appear blurred. Must be because it's white, surely not because it was going slower. Eg, first pic shows me about to fly past Cam.

There was only 15 photos taken by the kids. The above are half decent and the rest look like they were taken by kids.

"Good kids, Ossie". So glad you had such a good time and thanks for supporting us all the way from Griffith.

I was stationed at the end of the main straight, and you could see a good bit of how drivers co-ordinated their braking and point of entry into the turn.

I guess a bit depended on how fast one would approach the corner and as to how late they left their braking, but both you and bb seemed to handle the corner as if on rails - plus hardly any tyre nor exhaust smoke. No, you guys went well. I was surprised. Regards Styria

...and haven't you done a great repair job on "Povo" - again, my surprise.

I think that I may have finally sorted out Photobucket with the kind help of Michel. Lemme see.......Lots of bonnets up, but not a lot of 'spammering' going on....

topklasseatOranPark031.jpg

...adytum (Tony ) absolutely gave it everything...lap after lap...in his 107SLC.

topklasseatOranPark026.jpg

[topklasseatOranPark029.jpg

...and so did the organizer....
topklasseatOranPark028.jpg

topklasseatOranPark022.jpg....

...this guy (bb) wasn't quite so cheeky at the end of the day...not before he put in some smooth driving...
topklasseatOranPark018.jpg

topklasseatOranPark015.jpg

...very casual, very smug, saunter.....

topklasseatOranPark016.jpg
[
...never mind me - got the photos mixed up - with the first one, some serious benchracing - that is where the action is usual at its hottest, fastest and impressionable.

...we need to see the smug, casual saunter...

topklasseatOranPark014.jpg

..so, did we have any 'pit tootsies' ? You bet, we did...and what about the guy pumping himself up with refreshments and lung inhalers..never stopped him from putting in some great driving...

topklasseatOranPark012.jpg

topklasseatOranPark027.jpg

...and then there were others, including Reggie boy with his white SL...
topklasseatOranPark030.jpg

...did himself proud - spun all the way through that first turn...
topklasseatOranPark025.jpg

..and then some of the others - all trying hard and going beautifully....
topklasseatOranPark013.jpg

topklasseatOranPark017.jpg
topklasseatOranPark020.jpg

topklasseatOranPark024.jpg

That's all guys - all the other pics have got nothing on them - cars too fast and shutter speeds too slow. Thanks for a great day. Styria

Great pics styria  That photo of Reg drifting reminded me I forgot to add how good the contest was between the 2 doors. Very entertaining to watch. In the end it was great to see people give it their all.

I am surprised that no one has commented upon the missing photos that I hadn't put in !

So, without further ado, here they are - without my appropriate comments.

Nice inclusion of the retro 70s trailbike picture featuring a stylish mo in perfect time for Movember.

I don't feel so bad now with whitey my 450SE race car and its smokey valve stem seals, looks like its pretty much the order of the day when you take a W116 out onto the track.

Wish I coulda been there, but 3 track days in 1 month would be a bit of a tall order.

HAhaha... represent the movember!!

There was much smoke on over-run... With the 690SEL though I wasn't sure whether it was valvestem seals or just a loose nut behind the steering wheel! :p

I have to ask Michel, how did your tyre(s) [particularly the left rear], brakes & suspension pull up at the end of the day?? I dare say you'll be not far off a new set of brake pads / tyres??

There was a bit of 'dap dap dap' as I drove off and I suspect it is a flat spot in the back driver's side tyre...

The brakes were fine all day and I don't think I will need any new anything.

However, I will give it a check up when the Godfather comes over this week.

I am so proud of the old girl that I went and bought her a Sony CD Tuner with a USB port and some new speakers.. :D
