Can anyone identify this diff?

Has stamped on the diff housing:

272 039 3.46

on the side: 1163510401(MB emblem)

And on the back (removable) cover: R1163510908(MB emblem)2

I've figured its a 3.46 (as thats what was important when buying it), but what do all the other numbers mean?

Are MB numbers or indicators stamped elsewhere on the unit?

Have you put the numbers into an EPC.

I can do it when get home in a couple of days time.

I waded through my EPC tonight.

116 351 09 08 is the part number for the endcover of the 116 diff - or at least 350/450/6.9 versions.

116 351 04 01 is nowhere to be seen.

116 is the model, 35 is the rear suspension/diff code but most internal parts eg crown and pinion start with 116 350 not 351 with the exception of the endcover.

There was a 3.46:1 diff and it was optional in the 450 instead of the more usual 3.07:1 and I think was the standard diff in the 350

I suppose I should undo the rear cover and have a look inside to try to determine whether I have the LSD or not...

LSDs are supposed to have tags on them stating so. Mine has no tag, nor do I know what its supposed to look like - maybe its easy to lose when the diff is not installed in the car.

There's some other stamps on the side of the diff, but nothing resembling a part code.

On the right side about 1/2 way up there should be a flat plate with some indecipherable German writing which says Special Oil or some thing like that if it is LSD.

Hmmm... not looking good... mine just had imbossed 1/2 way down the right side:
