Helmet, thanks heaps for finding and posting the video. At one stage, I was unable to turn the key, but thankfully after several frustrating attempts, I was able to get ignition and start the car. However, by that time I had figured that there was no way that I should remove the key, and I decided that a new barrel was the only proper solution to what could be a 'break-down" situation at any time without warning.
Whilst the video purports the removal to be an easy step, reality on DAVID's car proved quite the opposite. I realize, of course, that never having attempted removal of the barrel in my own right, I was just a tad timid with my attempts to insert a suitable wire. Thus, discretion became the better part of valour and I decided to engage the services of a professional locksmith. BTW, try and get one of them nowadays - very busy and very expensive, as it turned out.
The problem with David's job mainly centred around the unscrewing of the black surround that fits around the barrel. On the 116' it's well nigh impossible to get a tool to grip the part to unscrew it. In the end, even the professional had no end of difficulty unscrewing that part. He also had a lot of difficulty finding the hole to compress the spring loaded locking tab. So, the job is definitely not quite as straight forward as the video suggested. In addition, one can't be ham fisted or indiscriminate - the last thing one would want is to have the barrel drilled out. Regard. Styria
especially when I went to do my front brake pads today . and found right front calliper has a jammed piston. I don't have tools to fix at brothers so removed calliper and have taken to brake specialist to have fixed.
