Engine Bay

Right, I'm "working" from home today and rather than follow in the footsteps of Des (i.e. take a day off and wreck your car) I've decided to give the engine bay of the 300SE a good seeing to.

Hi E200K, the work you are doing on the engine bay - is this in preparation for the Concours d'Elegance ? I seem to recall that you were really going to give that class a real 'shake-up' and provide some competition for Mathew with his 420. He's going to be hard to toss.

As a matter of interest, how is the car going - you've had it for just a bit over twelve months, haven't you ? No, that might be wrong - I think I saw it first on the rain interrupted Rolls Royce/Mercedes day. So that was only about five to six months ago. Regards Styria

Hi Styria,

I've only had the W126 since last December. Unfortunately I'm really struggling to find the time to get it into Concours condition but I'll probably enter the MBCNSW Concours anyway because it's more fun to be there if you have a car entered. I might enter the E Class too - which probably has a better chance.

In fact, time seems to be a rare commodity these days and I don't seem to be able to find enough of it to pursue any of my hobbies - car detailing, this forum etc. As much as I love my kids, they consume every spare minute.

Unofrtunately, the RROCA and MBCNSW Concours are both on the 13th of September. I won't get the chance to make approving noises as I look at your engine bay so maybe you might post some pics?

I think there's quite a few concours held on that day. Lasy year I went down to Canberra the following weekend for the Shannon's German Autofest concours. That's a good day out - highly recommended.

Old Indian saying; man with foot in two clubs ends up doing the splits.
Anyway, since you handled the Phantom so masterfully today (gear changes do take a little practice ) I can see that instead of a W116/W107 racer you will be looking for a WO Bentley. We in the RROCA never have our Concours on the same day as the Bentley Drivers Club. Problem solved.

Hi BenzBoy, the clash of those dates is totally unfortunate. As much as I would like to attend the Rolls Royce one, I will need to give preference to the Mercedes day. What a travesty !

However, we have two alternatives. One is the Eastern Creek Display day, and the other would be the all British Day that's been held at the Parramatta Kings School. Now, that's been a really good day - I went some two to three years ago, maybe even four, and the cars on display were nothing short of sensational. Maybe we can all work our way around some of those events. Regards Styria

More than unfortunate and it will not be a repeated error. The RROCA split the Concours from All British Day as it is too much all at the one time; I was signing up new members for the RROCA (DELILAH being one of them) whilst my car was open for judging and I was trying to keep the Japanese tourist from sitting in it to have his photo taken......I am disappointed that I will miss the M-B day though. Very disappointed.
Regrettably people tend to stay in their own club areas at Eastern Creek and not mingle as much as they might.
