6.9 advertised as 450SEL?

I came across this eBay advert for a 450SEL, however, the VIN number seems to be a 6.9 -- and a very late production model.

Can you guys confirm my suspicions?

The engine number says 100..... but it's a 985 which is early right??

Silver, cheap.. bonnet looks a little crooked.. Could it be the one that was repaired cheaply in sydney and sold on e-bay 6months ago?

My memory seems to be failing me as far as the car you recall.
But it seems also missing the headlight wipers.

Queensland car, definitely a 6.9 and whatsmore, the latest I have ever seen for sale. Pity that there are no other pics. It would seem that the seller does not really know what he/she has on her hands. Why. it's a 450SEL with a 6.9 engine.

It would tend to worry me a bit - I wonder how well the car was looked after and serviced. Regards Styria

N. B. As well, the engine number is incorrect - all 6.9s start with 100.985 unless.............hmm. Japanese, Swedish - I would really need to check if engine numbers (the first six) were changed for certain countries - plus, there ought to be no engine with that late a serial number.

The chassis number is only 14 before my red one (7114), but the engine number is well off. My engine number is 7237, whereas this one says it is 8915. Considering there were only 7380 built, either the engine number is wrong, or it's not a 6.9

You'd expect that on a factory change-over engine like yours.

That car was listed a few weeks ago. As for the engine number, 100985 was the only version of the M100 installed in the 6.9 and the series number has to be wrong.

I think someone made a mistake with the engine number... FWIW, the rego papers for my 6.9 state that the engine number is 1100985 72 001875, but it is actually 100985 12 001875. It is however a "12" engine.

Can't comment on engine numbers etc, but I second Cam's call re the dodgy crashed 6.9. Lack of detail in the ad means pretending not to know in my book.
