450SEL Hood Pad replacement

Hi I have just bought another 450SEL . I need to get a hood pad fitted
Car doesn't have one at moment
Can anyone recommend somewhere that I can get this done. In Sydney Metro region . Ideally including supply of the hood pad and fitting .
Any idea of approx cost would be appreciated.
I could buy one online and have a go at it myself , however I would prefer to just pay someone to do it

If you would like to contact me on 0428 50 1800. We can do it for you 'professionally" , but the cost factor depends a little on how much of the old glue is still on the underside of the bonnet. Probable cost about $110.00, plus cost of the padding. Not sure about local availability at the moment - we bought what six months ago was the last readily available in Sydney. I went through this excerise last year and found that Silver Star Spares in Sydney had the items in stock at ( from memory ) $130/40. From the States about one quarter of that price..... but the freight was much more than the Pad. In the end I did not proceed as I don't think that the 6 cyl 107s had a heat Pad fitted.

Personally I wouldn't bother with genuine ones unless you're fussy about originality or entering concours. They're just not durable enough

Mark, they do last a few years - say five minimum. However, that's not quite the issue. Whilst the car may not need it, once an old unit starts to disintegrate and you remove the remnants bit by bit, it certainly leaves some very ugly old glue marks on the underside of the bonnet. Every time you open that bonnet.......aaargh...... Regards Styria

I had the Godfather replace the pad on Red Terror a few years back and it's still in mint condition(excellent job)

Agree they look a lot better with a hood pad in place especially if they have had one before . This one is a 74 model in dark metallic grey with tan brown interirior . I just uploaded a couple of photos.
I am tossing up whether to keep the original seats or swap with. Seats out of my red 75 SEL which gas cream cord seats fitted with full sheepskins front and back.
Seats in the 75 are firmer as springs in better condition and sheepskins are very nice to sir on. I will be selling the 75 SEL soon , so am tossing up whether to try and keep the grey 74 looking original or go the comfort option with the seat swap.
Red 75 SEL also has rear headrests which I like the look of
Grey 74 needs a bit of work on upholstery and needs front headrest foam re done, so I may have to try and track down some decent well sprung tan brown seats . Anyone know if you can get rear seat backs in that colour with rear head rests ?

Definitely swap the seats and your back will thank you. You won't use it if it's not comfortable

It actually photographs better than it looks closer up. I am looking to respray the roof as it needs to be up to standard of rest of the paintwork.
Considering just swapping the sheepskin seat covers so that I can keep the original tan brown seats intact Then try and track down a seat back with head rests and some front seat seat headrests in the same colour.
May take a while !
I agree re the back thinking me comment . I discovered today that the previous owner of the red 75 SEL has inserted high density foam pieces between the seat and the sheepskin to firm up the lumbar support

Original looking car but really worth the asking price for a 4.5ltr V8 model?

Would have liked to have heard the engine running in the video.

450SEL is a MBCNSW Members car.

450SEL serviced all of it's life at Mercedes.

Is that the dizzy cap cover in the boot I can see in the video?

He can ask what he wants but it doesn't mean he will get it. That said, it's a very nice colour combo with great history that's VERY hard to find. A cars past cannot be 'fixed'. Stunning car and likely concours winner. Is it really too much for a classic, considering the costs for restoration?
