Oh yeah, that's my style - the fixer upper part too. 
But I don't really need any help to end up in the poorhouse - my existing cars are doing well enough in that regard.............

Speaking from experience, a rusty import W126 is something to steer well clear of... if there is visible rust, you don't want to know what lurks beneath the trim and rear window.
I can only assume that the trans has failed due to the B2 piston failing or the trans cooler being perforated. If the piston has failed, it's an "easy" fix, if the latter, it probably needs a complete rebuild like my 380SE does. Coolant and transmissions don't mix.

Oh yeah, that's my style - the fixer upper part too.
But when you come to the land down under, you will need a new collection of money hol.....cars. There is another 500SEL going for $1,500 near Canberra - "blue, runs well, no rego" goes the description. Just think of the depreciation these things have had since new.
