2014 CLS Class

Quite a sober and critical review - looks as though it is not all one would expect. The technology is mind blowing - I am thinking of an 800 meter headlight range. Why would you want it ? How could one use it ? Travelled at night lately on the Pacific Highway, or any other road for that matter ? Oncoming traffic would give the system hell - the automatic dipping function would be in use constantly. Just my opinion for what it is worth.

Also, just how much does it cost to produce such proliferation of models over the last ten or so years ? AMG this, AMG that,, SL, SLK, Cl, CLS, S Class etc.etc. - the mind boggles. Regards Styria

Hi Styria - I'll tell you what I think when(if) my CLS 500 arrives.

I do not know if I will be getting a 2014 or a 2015 model year car at this stage.

The headlight range is quite useful in the big long kangaroo strewn straights we have here and the new version of the headlights that can change beam pattern 100 times in a minute sounds better than the lethargic auto dipping system in my late E500 which was best left on manual especially as it stayed on dip below 40 km/hr which is just the speed I troll for Kangaroos down my 2.5 km street.

I am not so sure it needs a 9 speed transmission - never really sure my E500 needed a 7 speed transmission either - but that's progress.

Hi Bill, your ownership experiences, both on 'new', newish as well as 'old' mercedes, are absolutely valuable, as they come straight from the horse's mouth, without bias, and just as it is when one owns one of our cars.

I have to admit that I am now past a desire to own a more recent Mercedes model. A lot of them are, or appear to be fantastic value for money, but you need the cash to support maintenance and unexpected mechanical and 'electrical' problems. Anything to do with Mr. Bosch can present worrying aspects as far as ownership is concerned. Thank you for your information. Regards Styria
