I make no comment about the strength of a Camry. My comment is that the PII and similar cars are simply unsafe at any speed - but enormous fun!BenzBoy: certainly, a Camry would be stronger with a decent pair of chassis rails under it, like a P11!
On a less frivolous note, the main reason for the weight reduction across the whole range between the W116 and the W126 series has to do with the fact that the later models used HSLA steel in their bodies, saving something like 200 kg per vehicle.
HSLA = High Strength Low Alloy, at least that's what DB called the stuff.
On that basis any Camry would be safer. Oh - and you could make a tray of icecubes on the run....
