Is that a replica or a MB prototype?

Seems they crash tested it, testing a fibreglass body and wether it would meet their demands.
pity they never put them into production could have gone head to head with the lamborghini's and maserati's of the period.
still Mercedes didn't do it but other companies did.

For those asking 'What is a C111'?
Mercedes-Benz presented the C 111 at the 1969 Frankfurt International Motor Show.
With its wedge-shaped plastic bodywork, gullwing doors and rotary piston or Wankel engine, the "research lab on wheels" surprised and intrigued visitors. Quite a few customers wanted to buy the orange-colored car on the spot and offered blank checks in vain.
It has four rotors with a chamber volume of 146 cu in and an output of 350 hp or 257 kW at engine speeds of 7000rpm

The C-111 (sometimes called C-Trouble-One) while super car fans are disappointed that the body shape wasn't put into production, and rotary engine fans (myself included) were disappointed the RE wasn't put into production, many things we take for granted in the 107, 116 and 123 were successfully tested on the C-111, including:
Zero-offset steering system used in the 116
Turbo Diesel used in the 300SD and 300TD
The enormous padded steering wheel in the 116/123
Bundts first showed up on the C-111
ABS was developed on the C111 and then fine tuned on the 116 ESF cars before being made available on the last of the 116s
Probably other small things I can't remember...
