Hello all
Sorry to tack onto this old thread, but I am desperate for some sage advice
I have posted on other MB forums Re my 6.9 trans woes and have had some good tips, but I am at a stale mate now it appears.
I am experiencing a bad flare in all gears under hard throttle. Soft throttle, level road shift is very soft with no flare, but uphill or hard throttle shifts are crazy flare events.
Engages into drive and reverse nice and quick with no clunk.
Most advise so far points to vacuum modulator, so I replaced it, and cranked IL the pressure. But it has had absolutely no effect.
Now this is after I had the rad recored.
Is there a chance that gunk made its way to the valve body?
Can the modulating valve get stuck "in", do that the thrust pin is not pushing on it?

Any help much appreciated!

Interesting, did you use a sealing washer on the modulator ? Fluid level ok?

Hi Styria I have a 722 306 Transmission Manual from the ATRA in the States. Would you like to copy it ?
It has a lot of useful information about the issues in these Boxes.
For example I found that the 306 variation pertains only to my SL 107 280.
But it does not list all the variations from the V8s . The modulator is different I know, though I was never able to sort the correct one .. took a guess , seems to work ok .
Also there will be fewer clutch plates in the Pacs than the V8s, though this is not mentioned, to soften the shifts In a lighter, lower powered, car.

P.S. to our friend with the 6.9 problem.... if the box has to come apart... set the clutch clearances and the end float to the minimum specifications. Keep everything nice and tight , it will help the set up to get the best shift quality.
