I've recently purchased a set of 15" pentas for my 450SLC. I think this style goes really well with the C107 body shell.

A couple of questions.

1) They didn't come with bolts, but from what I read on other US based forums, the bolts from the 14" alloys work. Is this correct? I have a set of these bolts if this is the case.
2) Tyres. The closest size seems to be 215/60R15. From what I read 215 tyres won't rub on the 107 and should still deliver a good ride. Has anyone else run these wheels and did you also use this size?

The downside of this vs the more common 205/65R15 size is that the selection seems far more limited. I did notice a new 'classic' tyre called the Radar Dimax. I've never heard of this - any experiences good or bad?
You can get Pirelli P6000s in this size, but they are $700 per corner so not something I am willing to consider.
I'm less worried about tread wear as I drive the car about 2,000km per year so they are likely going in the bin with plenty of tread left because they are too old.

Just checked, mine are 16 inch and the front 225 x 50 x 16 while the rear are 225 x 55 x 16.

I had 16"s on my SLC for a while, 255/50 and they would rub. But the wheels were 16x7.5 ET 23, so I think a bit higher than the pentas.

Still favoring 215/60R15 tyres, but seeing mixed reviews for that Radar Dimax classic tyre.

No rubbing whatsoever, and my SL is lowered too :rolleyes:

For future reference, the genuine wheels don't use standard mercedes centre caps like the more plentiful ronal R9. They use a smaller diameter AMG cap, part number is: H WA 201 400 01 25

I know there are also the Pirellis but they are even more expensive than the Michelins.
Pirellis even more expensive than Michelins. Good Lord!

Setting cost to one side, I have found the Michelin XWX on the Mercedes alloy (Bundt) wheels to ride superbly.

In my case, in choosing tyres, a few people I spoke with over the years have always sworn by Michelin XWX.

It is certainly not an easy decision to make.

My bolts were not up to the quality of the wheels so I have been playing with cleaning them.
FIrst I used the autosol metal life saver which made a difference. But they were still rusty.
I soaked the ends in the autosol stuff for 4 days and they are much better, could now rub off most of the rust.
Am now soaking the whole bolts to give a last clean. I've used most of the autosol bottle, but better than buying new bolts.

I have been using a weak solution of hydrochloride acid (brick and let them soak about 5 minutes then rinse off. If need be another 5 minutes and nice and clean. Not if they're chrome though.
