Penta Wheels

Thought this was interesting:



We have talked in the past about Penta wheels, and how there is differences between the different makers, AMG, AST, Ronal etc.. etc..

I think young Oscar did some picture investigation on this, well this picture is quite good, shows a side by side shot of different wheels, and you can see how the spokes, or arms of the wheels are indeed different.

So not all Penta wheels are the same.

I just haven't had a chance.....

I was trying to find a set of Remotec wheels which are like what ian pointed out, ones like 459.

463 and 464 are my picks which are so similar to the CSA ones I have but if you were to see a photo side on, my favourite AMG type pentas are the ones whose spokes are angled more into the hub. Best examples would be found on the oversized ones on the flared racing 6.3's. I love that look.

Simmons the Aussie wheel maker, make a wheel like that don't they?
Have seem them on old VK/VL Commodores.

I can't remember exactly but I do know they have a b45 three piece wheel, 5 spoke, which doesn't really look like any of the above. I first saw a set on a w116 that was for sale on ebay in Albury a while back. They looked great. Given the funds I'd just go get a place like simmons to make me a custom set to the right specs.

Thanks for the simmons link, I kept typing in simmons.com.au

But I can't see anything Simmons that looks like the ute wheels sorry. Having a look close but I'm sure that ute has AMG pentas or good lookalikes. The others do look like the 459's though.

Speaking of the AMG style penta, there are a handful of Commodores and Falcons in my town I've spotted with AMG penta replicas. They look exactly like my CSA pentas below but have a different PCD.



Just having a look on ebay now, type in CSA and there's heaps of Holdn ones. It was my intent eventually to put some on the trailer.

Holden wheels would have a different nut hole size or spacing wouldn't they?

Then you have that "hub centeric" thing where Mercedes wheels fit over the hub snugly, where Fraud wheels as an example fit but it puts all the pressure on the nuts, rather than the hub.

I did look them up ages ago but one of them, Ford or Holden is 5-114.5 as opposed to 5-112 for us. Not sure about them being hubcentric but it's interesting to note that the stud holes look similarly shaped with a convex surface maybe. Considering Holden uses nuts instead of bolts it would be interesting to see what the nuts look like.

Well as someone who likes painted hubcaps I guess I have nothing to add!!
