I quite like those hubcaps, they ooze class.

Looks like it still has one of the yellow halon fire extinguishers which were banned in 1996.

That badge is definitely a fair bit lower which is puzzling.

Lovely car though. Will try and go for a look this week.

Chrome wheel arches would look the part on that 300SE shiny wheel arches of course! lol.

Please report back Simon and tell us your opinion of the car.

Cheers.

That's the least of your worries. I've just spotted a mosquito footprint 3 cms in from the left on your bumper bar. Just goes to show you can't be too careful with a Concours' car...:D:D:D
Regards,
Brian

A spec on the lense, old chap, just a spec on the lense. That said, I've seen cars win Concours with swirls all over the paintwork so a mere mossie footprint isn't too bad.

The steel wheels and plastic covers may have been a special order. Perhaps check the data card to see what options were fitted. There is no doubt the badge is too low. The gap to the lower lid edge should be very similar to the height of the numbers/letters. 6.9s never has plastic wheel trims as original equipment which I'm sure you'd know about.

Hi David i never said the 15 inch steel wheel were fitted to a 6.9 just that mine had them and the plastic hub caps when i bought my 6.9 in 2000. 14 inch Steel wheel with metal hub caps were an option on the series 1 W126. From everything i have been able to find the 15 inch steel wheels from series 2 were not fitted to Australian delivered W126's they were overseas model option. I remember asking MbSpares when i lived in Canberra when i bought my 6.9 about getting a replacement rim and being told they would have to source from overseas. Just for your information Geoff :D:D:D

How much were the plastic wheel trims compared to the alloy wheels for a W126?

I prefer the alloy wheels for a W126.

Is it raining in Sydney Simon what day do you plan to go and have a look at the 300SE for sale?

Does anybody else agree that metal hubcaps/wheeltrims were never available on W126, only plastic? Pre-facelift W126 could be optioned with Fuchs 14" and post-facelift with 15" flush-type multihole alloys. Hubcaps/wheeltrims over steel wheels, when fitted, were always plastic. Ja?
