Well after last weeks Concourse in Sydney the 300SE was covered in dust so I washed the car today.

Now it looks like it is going to rain you can never win!

300SE does look superb see what you think?

See the sunroof can only tilt & slide at the moment.

Sunroof will not open & close fully I can hear the motor working which is good news.

Next month the guide rail angles are going to be replaced with new genuine parts.

300SE booked in for 8am tomorrow to have the new foam insulation pad installed.

I will post photos of the insulation pad tomorrow.

Then next month the sunroof is going to be repaired at long last!

Hi Motec,

Yes the sunroof can be closed thankfully.

Tilt/slide still works.

Sunroof does not fully retract back and forth due to the guide angle rails.

In the process of having the old foam insulation pad replaced in the 300SE.

Old foam pad has been removed after 25 years it was flaking and peeling off!

The surface of inside the bonnet has to be prepared and the surfaced has to be smooth.

My Mechanic told me to use Scotchbrite in order for the new foam insulation pad can be fitted.

After 2hrs of cleaning the surface in the heat what a fun job the new insulation pad can be installed.

Good morning Brian,

Went to see my Mechanic so he could have a look at the work I did on Friday.

Well he said the new foam pad would not stick or adhere to the surface of the bonnet.

I will need to buy some wax & grease which you would spray onto the inside surface of the bonnet.

Apparently the wax & grease product is available from any auto parts store.

Cover the engine again with the large sheet and spray the wax & grease and allow to dry for 10mins, then wipe off.

Local spray painter told me how to use the wax & grease product.

I shall update this post again soon.

Cheers guys.

You're spraying wax and grease onto your bonnet??? I think you missed the word 'remover'... I doubt that will remove all the old foam and you might need a wood or plastic scaper. Also try eucalyptus oil. Worst case is having to soda blast the whole thing and get it repainted.

A new pad will be lucky to last 5 years since they were crap material to start with. While I understand the need for originality here, on other cars I'd be leaving it off or replacing it with something like Dynamat

Hello Oversize not going to be using the wax & grease remover.

New insulation pad is going to be fitted next week.

Adhesive glue is the product that is going to be used to fit the foam pad to the inside of the engine bay.

Will I post photos of the new foam insulation pad next week?

Thank you for the kind words in regards to the 300SE Oversize.

Good luck Tim . Still not pleased you did not reveal how bad engine bay was while trying to get positive comments before concourse . If you had been open about it I am sure you would have been told how to fix it. :(

Yep! Motec can tell you how to fix anything and everything - from corns on your small toe to a bad knock in your big end.
OK? Agreed?
Right now Motec, fair suck of the lemon - maybe Tim did not realise just where the problem lay. Please give him some breathing space and some encouragement.
Regards,
Brian

I have I have told him the car is a cracking good car. I just would have preferred to see all faults. His car is vastly better looking than my 6.9. I am sure he will get there in the end. If not enjoy driving it Tim. I have no interest in concourse but I will not pick on his car for that. You said it should not have gone if it was not ready. On the positive side for Tim he now knows what needs to be fixed for next year. So Tim don't take comments as negatives I was just annoyed about concealing a fault like engine bay before concourse. BUT ABOVE ALL YOU SHOULD BE PROUD OF WHAT YOU HAVE IN THE DRIVE WAY IT IS A VERY GOOD CAR. :D

As for what his car needs the most for driver enjoyment and originality . I have been looking when W126 are wrecked in W.A to see if one has a Becker Mexico CD head unit. If it does I will tell Tim the price with no mark up. :)

I wonder if a Becker CD player would work in the 300SE how much would the Becker CD cost?

The Becker in my car works perfectly.

The 300SE and 300SEL W126 never originally had the Becker CD or did they?
