I wonder if a Becker CD player would work in the 300SE how much would the Becker CD cost?

The Becker radio works perfectly.

The 300SE and 300SEL W126 never originally had the Becker CD or did they?

Forget it Tim, the first Becker CD players have the tuner/amp in the boot with thick cables running between the two. Would be a nightmare to retrofit.

Helmet is right but it was an option in W126 . Cost about the price of a new Toyota Corolla to option CD player in your new W126 . Most I have seen them in are late W126's and mostly in 560SEL. 560 that Mb Spares just sold had it fitted.

The guy who refurbished the wood trim console he has a green 420SEL and the car has the Becker CD player.

The green 420SEL is for sale as well.

Yes it was a very expensive option at the time. I fitted a Kenwood CD player to a car in 87 it was about $3500 with one amp and speakers at the time. Remember CD for homes was only released in about 83 in Australia. I still remember first CD I bought in 86 when I bought a Kenwood home HiFi it was Bruce Springsteen Nebraska .

Wow the price of the Becker CD blows me away you would never play the damn thing heaven forbid if the CD player did not work?

$3500 for the Kenwood CD player wow!

Touch wood the Becker in the 300SE keeps working.

The sound out of the speakers is terrific.

Would not be surprised if the speakers are the original speakers fitted to the car back in 1989.

All early adopter tech is expensive. Blueray was over $2000 when first released.Same as DVD . 42 inch plasma tv was over $30000 when first released in the 90's

Well in that case I won't shock you by telling you what 10 new speakers + Becker tuner and CD + amplifier cost when I fitted the same to the Spirit. You would need to sit down with a cup of tea and a Bex. Neither will I tell you what the Harmon Kardon upgrade cost in the CLK. Good sound does not need to be outrageous but neither is it available at Repco.

Trust me Brian you would not shock me. I still have Nachamichi tape deck and music bank cd changer . It cost more than any Becker when I bought it in 98. It was billed as best and most expensive head unit in the world at time. I used to have b&w 801 speakers to ME amp .Music and I mean all music is a passion.

I sold my Nakamichi cassette deck - I never used it anymore and a collector wanted it so....
I know I won't shock you but poor Tim might curl up his toes at the price of a moving coil cartridge.

I have a wooden moving coil and carbon tone arm both clear Audi on my rega turntable. Sold rest of system last year but kept turntable buyer did not want. Think I will get valve amp and electrostatic speakers always wanted a pair.
