Has anyone else noticed that Australia post seem to be moving from the Ford Transit vans to Mercedes Vans?

I wonder if it is a better fleet buy, or the expected longer life from the diesel motor?

I assume the Ford vans are only petrol?

Or the 2 S class that the purchasing manager at Australia Post negotiated into the deal, one for him and one for the mistress

Ditto, and also read somewhere about Mercedes gloating about how they got the contract. Pretty sure Transits come in diesel though.

Interesting, we also have Mercedes ambulances down here now too, gone are the Fords, which where I think converted F150 pickup trucks. I heard, I don't know if it is true or not that the reason the hospitals have switched to the MB's is they come all fitted out from MB with the stretchers, medical equipment etc.. etc..

Interesting to note that it is built on the factory lang sadan model, so I wonder out of the 13,000 odd lang's made, how many were actually cars like this, which would make the factory stretch sedan very rare,

The factory 'stretch' 123 was quite a common sight in UK in the 80s, usually with the 250 six.
Those ambos would make a neat camper though, anyone got one?

Re the ambos, I think it's just the most suitable vehicle whenever it comes time to buy a new batch, at least that's the case in the ACT. Am fairly sure they get them as regular vans, which are then fitted out elsewhere - every state/territory has their own spec for these things (have been a little involved in ACT rural fire truck specs, same story).
