I know from experience drivers side rear plug on 6.9 requires a special tool or flexible coupling. So maybe something like that . For RHD

From memory, I think it is an 18 mm size spanner, but I am not aware of its significance in the overall scheme of things. Maybe for ....ah...hmmm. I have got one floating in one of my tool rolls. It's not a spark plug spanner. Geoff, I have no difficulty removing any of the 6.9 plugs, and I don't even have to remove the Air Cleaner. Much, much easier than on a 450, especially on a R107. Wow, ok.
This is a bit of a mystery.
I can’t wait to see what the Germans had in mind for this really offset ring spanner.

The colour code for my lower trim is also a mystery.
2 panel beaters I use can not tell me either.
I know my paint code is 929, I had touch up paint made by Auto Barn, perfect match, and the little brush is perfect to use. $19.99 a bargain.

You can see the code 929 on my plate below, but does anyone know the code for the grey lower trim?
Would it be the 808 code next to the paint code of 929?

Checked both of my 126 and I don't have this tool. I wonder if it was from another car? Is there a part number on the back?

Here is the photo of my 560 toolkit. Note the channel lock I added, it is part of the 129 toolkit, not the 126.
Not sure if it was originally part of the 126 toolkit, but the wheel centering tool is worth having. makes it much easier to change a spare wheel.

808 means 1988 model year.

If your car is before 9/88 it should be 5944 Fregattblau
If after, it should be 5301 Andorblau

from here: https://www.w126-wiki.de/index.php?title=Lackierung_und_Polster

Code will not be listed on the data plate as all 929 cars got the same cladding colour, you could not specify this.

Of course, many cars how have the cladding a different colour, like my 300SE.

Bryce, thank you. That is terrific information.

The only way I can see a month build is by the Aussie compliance plate, however that will differ to the actual build date.
I can’t say I have seen any month & year dates on the car anywhere else.

My tool kit has the addition of the sunroof tool, but no guide pin for wheel changing, maybe that went astray.

is your car airbag equipped? If not, take off the steering wheel pad and its date will be printed on the back.

Most Aussie delivered cars had a 'built xxx' on one of the plates, but not sure when that started

Otherwise datamb.com should give you an approx build date from your vin.

Bryce,
I completely forgot about the factory plate.
It shows 3/88 with an Australian complied 5/88

I will use the colour you provided based on build date for the trim colour.
It also seems there was only 2 available.
Light grey (almost silver) and dark grey.

Thanks for your help on this Bryce.

I had some touch up paint made by Auoto Barn for the lower cladding on my 88 560, and the match is absolutely perfect.
The coulour is 5944 Fregattblau (frigate Blue) which I would describe as battleship grey, no way would I say blue, but it is spot on.
Best $20 I have spent.

This is the 3rd lot of touch up paint I have got from them.
One for my wife’s pepper white 2005 mini, again a perfect match.
The second was a few weeks ago, which was the nautical blue (code 929) for the 560, which was spot on also.
They even do spray cans.
The bottle has a brush inside like a nail polish bottle, so u just dab a smallish drop onto each stone chip, the paint settles down after about half an hour into the stone chip mark, so it looks great from at least 1m away, and is almost invisible further away than that. Up close of course you can see it.

But only the owner will do that :D

The previous owner backed into his ride on, which is the only mark on this car as you can see below the right hand tail light besides some stone chips that go hand in hand with being a country car.

Below is where I put a small amount of the touch up paint to check the match.
Can you see it?
The insert in this bar has been painted before some time ago, the owner told me.

Yes mate, it’s weird, the end/handle is also notched a tad (see pic) almost like it would slide into an extension piece??
I have no idea what its function is. Quite a rare size - 18 mm and I happen to have one in my possession as part of a tool kit (for sale). It came originally in a crappy looking (quality wise) cloth bag and was part of late '80s W124 models. I think ! Regards Styria
