C107's 560SEL

This car was introduced in the COVID19 projects thread, but I thought it would be worth starting a specific thread on this car. I had to go to the shops today so I went and got the 560 to give it a further drive and take some better photos.

My older (5 yr old) daughter and I went and cleaned and added leather conditioner to the seats which already feel a lot better. I'll need to do it a few more times over the next couple of months/weeks.

I used zymol, leather cleaner and then leather conditioner.

Had a quick look under the car, the kidney mufflers are new and there there is zero rust. I replaced an exhaust hanger and a shift bushing. Need one more exhaust hanger.

The suspension has been done by pedders at some point. I didn't have a chance to look more closely to see the brand of the shocks they used, but it has their stickers on it.

Rear struts are gone and replaced with shocks and different springs.

Car was originally sold with undershields (lots of country driving) and at least the sump shield is still there.








Car needs motor mounts and a thermostat.

This is the stuff to be specific. I would normally buy one bottle of the cleaner for every four of the conditioner.

Great video Bryce.
Looks like a lovely car.
Besides the interior colour, it reminds me exactly of my 560.
Even down to the yellowing of the revers light lenses.

Patrick, your old 560 has popped up a few times on facebook/ozbenz last week or so. I didn't remember this was your old car until I just saw that picture. The bloke who owns it now is looking for a starter solenoid.

You can really see how good the paint is on this car when comparing with my SEC which is also 929 Nautical blue.

I've been meaning to get the buffer out on the SEC since I owned it. I have used the clay bar and removed a lot of junk, but now needs a good buff with compound. I've got some good auto-glym stuff to use, just never had a chance to do it.

Still using the AutoGlym car products on the C220 and the Toyota I have just about tried every car product there is besides Zymol, Swissvax or Menzerna certainly the more expensive car care products.

The paintwork on the 560SEL does look very impressive!

The C220 does have swirl marks on the bonnet and the roof I have clay bared the car, waxed and polished the car.

Since purchasing the car almost 18 months ago the car does look much cleaner well I hope so?

Just a little update about the car if I may say so?

Going to order a new set of hubcaps and I have just had the aerial gear assembly parts replaced now the aerial mast retracts electronically as it was designed to do.

The car just last month clicked over to 110,000kms.

Anyhow sorry to go off topic Bryce back to your topic in regards to your car.

I've been using the Zymol leather products for years. They are not expensive, each bottle around USD$10. I should probably do it more.

I've never used any of their other products outside their leather cleaner and conditioner.

A friend of mine recommenced the auto-glym compound for the buffer. I used it on the DS when it had its crappy paint job. It seemed to do ok given how bad that paint job is - it is a two stage product, you first use the heavier compound and then the lighter one.

I am not knowledgeable about detailing etc. I normally stick to a quick wash/leather condition. Once tried to use wax but the car just looked dull.

Not a silly question.
probably it is, but since I travel to the usa regularly and order a lot of stuff from there, I just buy it from the USA.

They also have a vinyl product that I would presume works for MB-TEX. I have never tried it although i bought a bottle to try on the 300SE.

I went down an applied another Zymol treatment over the weekend. The original leather is really responding well and is starting to soften up.

I've not been able to do as much with the car as I would like as it is not at my house (Garage has no roof), and travel to the site I keep the car is curtailed. Most of my work on the cars is late at night and I have no legitimate reason to drive around late at night.

I've just ordered some parts to allow for the chain guides to be replaced (previous mechanic changed chain without guides for some unknown reason). Also some motor mounts, a new thermostat and some misc stuff.
