Hi team, any thoughts on sourcing lower front door card to door clips? Of course the usual problem of them previously being removed incorrectly has damaged the mounts. May have to fabricate something myself if not available. Thanks.

Well, I have never removed a door card from a Ch.126 car. Only ever 108/109 and those are totally different in the way they are attached to the inner door skin when compared with the W116 models. On the 126s, you have four square shaped types of hooks on the top section, and the door card itself further down has two hooks, one front and one back, that slide into apertures that are cut into the inner door skin. Once those "hooks" break, you can secure the door card by means of chromed dome self tappers to the inner skin. I am not certain if 126 items are the same, but that's how 116 cards are fitted. I had the front passengers door trim off my 300SE about a month ago.

I don't 100% recall, but I seem to remember the clips were integral to the door card - i.e. they were not separate clips like on some cars. You may have to fabricate something on your door cards.

Somebody else might have a door card handy that is already off a car to take a look at. Oversize probably does.

Generally speaking, what I have found on W116s I have dismantled, the "unknowing" when they attempt to remove the door trim (that's what I would normally call them), they try and prise the trim of the inner skin and in the process they break at least one or two of the "top" brackets that are part of the door card, and there is also a good chance that they will break one, if not both, of the plastic hooks that are part of the plastic door card frame. As C107 has indicated, Oversize is best likely to be the one to assist you. Regards Styria

It is incredibly frustrating to have a car in good condition, yet encounter previous attempts at repair that cause damage that could be avoided by being humble enough to ask someone. The removal procedure is indeed quite straightforward when the other interior elements are dismantled. Its quite reminiscent of the bra ad from the 70's-lift & separate!

Yes, my 300SE has a couple of those. For example the liner of the glovebox has been cut at the back and the taped back up. Removing it properly takes all of ten minutes.
