Cylinderist: absolutely - I have a vested intrest.

I do wonder though, if you were buying a luxo car (any luxo car) to have converted into a limo at great expense, surely you would splash out and opt for a larger engine model.

I suppose a conuter argument is that limos are about style not substance, and that you rarely use them to get somewhere fast. And in a way this car is proof of the 6's abilities.

As for the actual engine and weight, in all seriousness, I dunno. It's true that a standard SEL W116 is fairly heavy as it is, for a 2.8L six and I don't know how much extra weight this limo conversion would tack on (I'm guessing a sizeable amount though and this is even BEFORE people...), so yes even a 3.5 V8 would logically be a lot more effortless for this application... but still, it seems the little (though to look at, it aint that "little" ) 280 motor must have got the job done okay.

The weight difference between an SE and SEL with the same engine seems to be 35kg, for 10cms more car. This limo would be stretched by at least 1m, and need some reinforcing underneath I'd think (and a disco ball), so I'm guessing add 500kg min.

Hmm yes, pretty substantial then, considering you can still add in more people after that as well.
